o no....

Actually, I was watching the last game with a savvy BB guy and he said, 'I shudder to think what's gonna happen to that zone.'

'What do ya mean?' I asked.

'A good team is gonna slice that zone to pieces.'

One reason to play zone is if the other team can't throw it in the ocean outside of 15 feet. That would describe the team we played Saturday.

As for Mark G' s tweet -- I appreciate anybody who is not afraid to admit when he's wrong. I can think of at least one regular contributor here who has never been able to do that as long as I've been here. Make that two.

The problem we are having with Tubby's so called admission is...we don't look at it as such. It's just another way for him to take credit for the win.

Martin won that game--playing heroball at the end. Tubby had already set it up to blame Martin if we lost. But heroball saved the day.

No matter what happened, win or lose, all Tubby's ducks were in a row.

I've worked under and alongside several older men in engineering and operations management where they have either lost the mental ability to do the job any longer, or they didn't keep up with industry advances, or they were "friend" hires in the first place and never able to do the job well then their protector was gone and they had to stand on their own two feet. I've seen the behavior you're talking about too many times.

Maybe you can answer this then. I've been wondering. Do you think Tubby does this instinctively or does he strategerize his plan of action?

I guess it could be some of both.

shrug

The problem with that zone defense still remains. Any team with a shooter is gonna lite us up. The zone doesn't stop open 3 pointers...but we all know that.

A good zone can be as good or better at defending the 3 than M2M. It's not the zone per se.

I do think we have some guys who can be good zone defenders, Davenport, Rivers, Johnson, even Martin are longer guys that can bother shooters and get in passing lanes; but right now, there are a lot of holes in the zone.

Even Tulane was slicing it up at the end after they kinda figured it out. I think they made 7 straight shots at one point.

I really doubt at this juncture of the season that we are going to miraculously turn into a solid defensive team just by switching to zone.

I also love how you guys can turn Tubby's admission that he should have tried it earlier into an "it's all about me" thing. The guy can't win with you folks. He apologizes and he's taking credit for the win and not giving the players the credit, he doesn't apologize and he's arrogant and stubborn.

I'm not sure about the arrogance or stubbornness. I think it's more of a survival mechanism.

RE: Tubby Issues Mea Culpa
I commend Tubby for admitting a mistake and taking steps to fix it. However, it took too long for him to take action and the reason (IMO) is his stubborn insistence on doing things his way and blaming players when it does not work (“obedience”).

His behavior fits Tubby’s overall theme of refusing to do what it takes (within the rules) to win games.

Kind of what I was thinking, it was really bad SMU and Tulane teams... We already beat Tulane earlier in the year while still playing man to man. I guess we will see how well it really works when we play Houston.

Here's how it will go down. Coogs will hit double digit 3s while shooting 55% from the field.

I don't think they shoot 55% I think they hit double digit 3's and rebound a high percentage of the misses.

But it took a MASSIVE differential in FT attempts to win that game.
