Oh come on! SC Upstate can't be that bad (can they) ?

(FWIW, the A-Sun were the humble origins were UCF originated from, so I can't trash that conference too much.)

Wasn't it called the Trans America or something back then?

The TAAC. Trans American Athletic Conference. Then they changed to the Atlantic Sun, which is a much better name, IMO.

I’m not sure Memphis could either unless we’re playing a name opponent or they give away free tickets again

Devlin is cool, especially since they opened the ceiling back up. Reed Green at USM is just a bad high school gym.

Memphis' last three home games have averaged 8,881

Memphis' first three home games averaged 6,606

so it's getting better...

It's the hockey rink they play basketball in, similar to the (awful) XL Center, but worse. And they have no Gampel to make up for it. Sad!

the video board is a projector on saw horses

the lucy van pelt memorial press area

there isn't a concourse - the exterior doors put you right inside the gym with a walkway going all the way around. the 2 restrooms and single concession stand are in a connected room off the walkway behind a basket

That's a shame. Southern Miss deserved better, IMO. They are the one program that has been left behind the most during the past 15-20 years.

Jeb- I went to that game in Hattiesburg in your pics. Tornado hit the next afternoon and did some damage to Reed Green I think. Could have been bad if it hit 24 hours earlier. Honestly I kinda liked Reed Green.

That tornado hit the Hardy street side of campus. Katrina did tear a section of roof off.
We just installed real video boards and score boards this season. Other cosmetic work is going to be done this off season with plans to upgrade the concourse, and concession areas.
We are doing it in parts instead of the plans the last ad laid out.

the Mullins center is so depressing. The students never show up and its usually very empty. There was a a recent year where they were ranked for most of the season and still no one showed up. ( i have friend that is a umass fan so i go to a few with him every once and a while.

RE: What is one of the most depressing places to view a basketball game
I remember watching a game on tv about 22 years ago that I think was played at the Mullins Center. # 1 UMass vs # 3 Memphis. Crazy to think that 5 years after that game, Cal would be our coach. 22 years later, Cal has come and gone. Finch & Lorenzen are deceased. That 96 Memphis returned everyone but David Vaughn and had high hopes after a sweet 16 in 1995 (still pissed about the BS hand check call on Garner vs Arkansas). Ranked in the top 15 or so all year and flamed out against Drexel in the 1st round of the NCAAs.

Its redeeming quality is noise level. It was loud at times at the game I attended.
