RE: 2019 Football Recruiting
After yesterday's reminder, 4 missed kicker points = 4 point loss, it might be a good year to try to find a Steve Christie type kicker (maybe, even offer him a half-scholarship...) this year.

There is no scenario whereby W&M will offer a scholarship to a PK or P out of high school. Best bet is to convince a few to walk ons to try out during spring ball and maybe offer something to the frontrunner. As I've said before, though, we very recently had all-conference punters and kickers...just a down couple of years.

I'm a bit weird in that I place high value on kickers so I'd jump at an opportunity to offer a good one. +3 points a game and/or pinning a team on the 10 yard line is a massive advantage.

Where it is hard with kickers and punters is that you need to have more than two each unless one does both. You also need succession so giving out scholarships gets you up to as many as four if you want to do it right. Using partials can work. Using none doesn’t work.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting
I guess I need to monitor the number 1 in the MEAC recruiting class that Howard has for any movement. No idea on academics, but there are a couple 3 stars. They may have all signed LOIs, but it is customary to grant releases if it is requested.

According to 247:

3* DB Elijah Coleman 6'1 TX
3* WR Trevon Russell 6'2 TX
2* RB Terry Smith 5'9 PA
2* QB Hollis Mathis 6'1 PA
DB/RB Parrish Parker 5'10 PA

London loves a good FBS transfer. Expect rumblings about a transfer from S Carolina and another from VA Tech...both of whom were interested in going to Howard.

It would, also, be out of character to raid the school you're leaving, unless a player is just determined to follow the coach.

Though we are not an easy landing spot for FBS transfers, I'll be curious if we see any uptick in interest.

Saw this tweet

"****Major Recruiting Alert****

The Howard University Coaching staff is leaving for William & Mary and those committed WPIAL STUDS are now decommitting and reopening their recruitment. Great opportunity to have an elite talent fall right to you "

Not sure on the accuracy, but it says 2 things. One, the 3 Pennsylvania commits have reopened recruiting. And two, it mentions the Howard staff is going to William & Mary. Is London bringing his whole crew along for the ride?

Remarkable the number of coaches and HS players who started following London in the last 2 days. Will be an interesting next few months regarding recruitment.

Since Howard doesn't have time, they are likely to promote within. My guess is that some of Howard's current staff will remain and some will come with London. I do not think their entire staff is coming to Williamsburg.

I saw that too. Seems London will have no shortage of interested coaches to fill out his staff. I think he primarily meshes a few of his loyal Howard lieutenants with existing tribe coaches for continuity for at least his 1st season. Howard may try to elevate to keep him, but I really hope London is able to bring OC Marion along for the ride. He seems a young coach whose stock is on the rise. I think if we have the athletes in place to run it, it will be a fun brand of offensive football to watch.

Have a hunch we're going to see some recruits flip our way in the December and/or February signing periods.

I'd be surprised if many of our current commits flip. They knew Jimmye was leaving, and committed more to the school than the coach.

I'd say yes and no. I think they absolutely love the campus and players. However, a lot of the recruiting courtship involves the coaches that recruited you, made promises to you, and have been in steady contact with you. If the coaches that recruited the kid are still around, I agree there is a very good chance. If dealing with all new staff, there will probably be a getting to know you period to see if the fit is still there.

My guess is oline /dline recruits wouldn't change much. If rumors hold true, and they bring in Marion at OC, his philosophy is bringing in athletes that are "positionless" at the skill positions. We have some of that, but that would be a departure from our typical skill position recruiting. I do think a lot of that was driven by the kind of talent that Howard could recruit. Undersized, but very good athletes overlooked by other D1s. I think Marion has also voiced building an offense to the players strengths.

RE: 2019 Football Recruiting
I think the poster a few ago that brought up flips was talking about flips OUR way. I think we will see a little of that but not a bunch. My guess is London and whomever is on his staff will be working kids they are familiar with that haven’t committed yet. Our commits are probably safe as long as London wants them and I see no reason why he wouldn’t. One of the guys, I think, plays for Andrews’ brother. If he stays I’m sure the recruit does too.
