RE: Part 2: Trouble on the horizon for top basketball programs..
Do you know what the worst part of all this is?
It's that if these were plain old explicitly for-profit companies (or even some professional sports leagues) trying to hire these kids as employees, it would be 100% acceptable to pay for flights, for dinners, for travel expenses for interviews (recruiting trips). The money given to sign the kids would be considered a sign on bonus. The payments to the players, that is.
The payments to coaches, etc, are essentially kick-backs or bribes (which is absolutely illegal).
But in NCAA sports? Nah. Forget about it. It's illegal. It's a measure of control. Is it a problem? Of course it is. But everything I'm seeing here leads me to believe that this is going to be the report that precedes a break-off. These schools don't want to stop doing this. They don't want to stop getting away with it. The NCAA will sanction the schools, sure. But I think most of these schools will use it as their long awaited opportunity to break away.
It's disgusting, but it's no real surprise to me.

Uh where does it say WSU paid him?
It doesn't have to, it doesn't matter if a school was directly involved if a player is ruled ineligible all wins are vacated
Will be curious how the NCAA handles this.. make an example this will not be tolerated or realize it wasnt that much money in the bigger picture and does something small like fines

A few “rogue” assistants are gonna be thrown in prison and business will continue as normal.
The difference is it ain’t an NCAA investigation. It’s a criminal inves5igation by an entity with full police and judicial power to compel people to testify.

Woosh. I responded to a statement made that assumed something that wasn’t even close to implied in the article.
Interesting remarks from fans whose coach is Kelvin Sampson.

The loan to Fred was in February of his senior year. So doubtful WSU was involved at all in that. Most likely scenario is WSU has to vacate wins from late Feb to March of 2016.

This is not a knock on any AAC school that may be affected by this or directed at any poster. But if the punishment is going to be 'vacating wins' then they may as well not even punish any school.

But if anyone on Marshall's staff at the time is found to have known about it, it could be a much bigger deal.

and your point , his phone calls where at iu..
if any thing kelvin sampson and larry brown are why you should be worried ..
they essentially tried to ruin his life for making 1 too many calls..
they tried to destroy smu/larry for a self reported, situation that involved 1 player cheating on an exam without the coaches knowledge

You are kidding yourself if you think the ncaa will do anything. They will claim its not in their jurisdiction or some bs like the uNC case. They cant punish half of the schools in the country. Kind of makes me wish we were cheating too.

Correct, but yet again. Why would WSU be involved at that point. This isn't a Louisville situation where they needed the money to get him to commit. This happened 4 years after his commitment.

RE: Part 2: Trouble on the horizon for top basketball programs..
Sure - this will happen.
NCAA president Mark Emmert released a statement Friday morning.
"These allegations, if true, point to systematic failures that must be fixed and fixed now if we want college sports in America. Simply put, people who engage in this kind of behavior have no place in college sports. They are an affront to all those who play by the rules. Following the Southern District of New York's indictments last year, the NCAA Board of Governors and I formed the independent Commission on College Basketball, chaired by Condoleezza Rice, to provide recommendations on how to clean up the sport. With these latest allegations, it's clear this work is more important now than ever. The Board and I are completely committed to making transformational changes to the game and ensuring all involved in college basketball do so with integrity. We also will continue to cooperate with the efforts of federal prosecutors to identify and punish the unscrupulous parties seeking to exploit the system through criminal acts."
