Kent State @ Buffalo
The Golden Flashes head to Alumni Arena to take on league leading Buffalo tonight at 7:00PM. The Bulls are coming off a two point loss at Northern Illinois while the good guys are looking to avoid a 4 game conference skid.

On one hand, Buffalo would seem to have KSU outmatched. On the other, its the Mid American Conference.

Go Flashes!

Unlike the Cavs they can’t trade away half the team.

Not expecting much but every time I get down on the team and the coaches they almost always respond. Who knows what’s going to happen!

Coming in Peterson has attempted 158 career threes and is hitting under 30%. There comes a point where you gotta stop shooting.

Are you freaking kidding me? A jump ball when literally half the Buffalo player's body is laying out of bounds.

That escalated quickly. Offensively, Kent State is below average. Defensively...

That second half of the last UB game was the most exciting, best played half we've seen all year. The three and a half games we've seen since have been some of the least exciting worst played games this year.

De La Rosa is becoming more of a liability than a help for this team. The refs don't let him play defense and let him get attacked on the offensive side.It seems to be getting progressively worse each game. I know he only has 1 foul today but you can see him playing soft on defense which is letting UB take advantage of it.

I am watching "Tradition never graduates" die before my very eyes. I can take a loss if I see what we have known as Kent State Basketball. This is not it and I am surprised that it is happening under Senderoff. This team is not playing hard and least of all smart. It is only half time so maybe we can recover.

Between listening to the two announcers and watching Kent players trying their hardest to help Buffalo win, this is really bad news to the max. How many more times is Senderoff going to allow Walker to dribble into 3 or 4 players and lose the ball. Whatever the game plan is, it's not working.

Really first rate job by the UB athletic department today. Scorers table loses power in the first half then an inadvertant horn undoes a bucket by UB.

Had Jimmy Hall not shown up on campus, Senderoff doesn’t last. This is my opinion, of course. I feel like he has to win with next years group or else it may be time part ways.

I have a feeling Saturday might be the most under-attended Akron game in a decade.

RE: Kent State @ Buffalo
I think our offensive problems can be summed up with this statement... at one point De La Rosa caught the ball in the short corner, turned and faced up. Then my feed froze and was frozen for at least 5 seconds. When it came back De La Rosa was dribbling backing his man down. We don't move the ball and we don't get guys the ball in places where they're successful.

Often Walker seems to over dribble trying to create his own shot but we almost never run anything that gets him a good look that he doesn't have to create. I'd love to see what his 3pt% is on catch-and-shoot vs. off the dribble. It seems like he makes it at a high clip on catch-and-shoot and it seems dismal off the dribble.

Our lack of ball movement and disorganization on offense is preventing guys from getting the ball in a spot where they're comfortable. As far as floor spacing goes, it sure doesn't help that our top 2 wing defenders (Ridenour and Peterson) can't hit the broad side of a barn from three. This team could look a lot better with a true 3 and D guy on the wing. Hopefully Harris can be that next year.

One other comment on the offense. It seems like it would make sense to start running the offense through Avery more and De La Rosa less. Often our offense seems to be to throw it in to AD and let him try to over power his guy, or kick it when doubled. There are a couple problems with this strategy. First, AD is in foul trouble all the time so you can't rely on it. Second, he's turning it over at a ridiculous rate. Our 7-foot center leads our team in turnovers... And finally, he's not super mobile, so when teams are expecting us to throw it to him they have been doing a good job of forcing him to catch it further and further from the basket.

Avery has a ridiculous assist to turnover ratio this year. He leads our team in minutes played by more than 100 minutes over the next guy yet he only has 20 turnovers on the year.

To support this, if you just consider the possessions they've each used this year coming into tonight De La Rosa has used roughly 343 possessions to 332 by Avery despite Avery playing nearly 200 minutes more. If you consider a 'Successful' possession a made basket, assist, or making two free throws and if you considered a 'Failed' possession a missed basket, turnover, or two missed free throws De La Rosa's Success to Failure ratio is 0.986. Avery on the other hand has a Success to Failure ratio of 1.396. Possessions used by Avery are successful roughly 42% more often than possessions used by De La Rosa.

Bottom line, I think our only hope is if Avery's usage rate increases. Sure his turnovers will go up some, but I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that our offensive efficiency would go up a lot too.

Sadly, I have lost interest in following KSU basketball. I never thought I would say that. I turned the game off before the end of the first half.

I agree with comment on Avery. That is what I was questioning in a previous post minus all the statistics. When a guy has that good an assist to turnover ratio I get suspicious. Usually no one is that much better. He plays or is coached not to push the action. Lobbing the ball into AD is not pushing the action especially since AD is no where near as good as Jimmy Hall. If you remember it took awhile last year for Sendy to annoint him as the point guard. Maybe he knows he has to play conservatively with him.
