Coaching Alert! Coaching alert!! COACHING ALERT!!!!
Ole Miss will part ways with their coach Andy Kennedy at the end of this season. He turned around the Rebels' program in 12 years to make them a contender. Could this be a good chance for Conque to get him to come to the Jack? What do you think?

Even if he is damaged goods, I doubt that he would have to take a job at quite our level. Could be wrong.

RE: Coaching Alert! Coaching alert!! COACHING ALERT!!!!
I like Andy Kennedy, if for on other reason that he was willing to bring his Ole Miss team to the Stephens Center. I wouldn't rule out his coming here if we were to have an opening. I always liked the idea of a "retread". Typically to me that means a coach that has won big at our level, but was unable to do so when they moved up. When I saw Dennis Felton, on the bench, as an assistant at Tulsa (he won big at WKU, no so big at Georgia) I thought he would be a great candidate for our job. Well, he finally did get another head coaching job- He is 7-20 at Cleveland State right now. Shows how much I know.

I think Kennedy is a good coach. The "posse" finally got him after 12 seasons. I think tomorrow night against the pigs will be his 400th game at Ole Miss. Hope his guys play hard for him.

I saw he is making 1.9 million at Ole Miss according to Wikipedia. We might be able to pay him 20% of that. It still seems like a person could squeak by making 380K, not that I would know.

Rumor is Ole Miss will hire Steve Forbes who is 72-24 at East Tennessee State. He was 62-6 at Northwest Florida State (Juco). Not too shabby.

RE: Coaching Alert! Coaching alert!! COACHING ALERT!!!!
There are caveats on both sides of the new coach issue. If you hire an experienced HC from a higher level, you have proven experience, but you also may have an attitude issue (I'm only here because I have to be). If you hire a young assistant, you get energy and enthusiasm, but not much experience. Occasionally you find one (e.g. Beard) who has only been an assistant at D1, but who has HC experience at other levels. That is probably the best of all worlds, but they are not too easy to find.

It is about the time of the year for the old Coaching Carousel to begin revolving. That is almost a season in itself.

We saw some pretty good basketball out of an old retread Wimp Sanderson. Had he recruited, no telling how much better he'd done here.

The good thing about a proven coach is that even if he has lost a little on the rebound, there may be a lot left even at that. Even 60% of a really good coach still leaves a good coach.

Wimp had some really good players. Were they all guys that Jim Platt recruited? Maybe so, but I can't really remember at this point.

Brady had some good seasons at ASU, but it didn't end well. I figure a good coach just doesn't "forget" how to coach. Sometimes they just end up at a high level job which just isn't a good "fit" or they have some bad breaks with regard to injuries, eligibility, etc. Often they are just wanting another "chance" and may be thrilled to get that at a midmajor.

RE: Coaching Alert! Coaching alert!! COACHING ALERT!!!!
It is doubtful that Brady was thrilled to get to be in Jonesboro (or anywhere in Arkansas, for that matter). That is why I always wonder about attitude with rebound coaches. However, it is not always negative: some coaches are just thrilled to land on their feet and get another chance, and they work just as hard as they did before. Some are principled enough that they give it their best regardless. But (from a distance) it did not appear that Brady had that spark any longer, and I suspect that is the case more often than not. Age also plays a factor. If the coach is young enough, he may get another shot at the big time, but an older coach probably won't be active long enough.

Yes Mickey, Platt recruited most of Wimp's first players. No one ever said Platt couldn't recruit, just couldn't coach'em evidently.

I can. They were pretty much all Platt's recruits- Fisher, Dixon, Dobbins...

Coach Kennedy officially stepped down today after 2 losses since announcing he would leave at the end of the season. Probably best for all involved. Interesting to see if he get another coaching job, or goes to the retirement home for ex-coaches (i.e. the broadcasting booth).
