Thanks. Crap. That's a ton of travel for that game and leading up to the next one.

It is, but Mick is not going to be there per a tweet (out recruiting). Larry Davis will be filling his shoes.

Good preview. Really liked Gar's response to the payback question. Couple ways to look at this game for me. We took their best shot and still won going away, or they just needed to finish better and now know how to beat us. I think they have a really good team, but do not match up that well with the Cats.

I expect a dog fight--make that a cat fight.

While we know UC is capable of beating this team, I see Houston's players wanting this one more than any game all season and I fear it means they'll win a close one. I expect to see lots of home cooking from the officials too; they'll see contact all over the court from the guys in the black uniforms.

As a former coach of ours used to say, you don't need to lose to learn but if the 'Cats come up short I expect them to punish WSU on Sunday. Of course we would all prefer two wins and this UC team has certainly demonstrated amazing capability to just keep on improving and winning. Go 'Cats!

30-2.

We win on their floor in front of a capacity crowd of 2,800. We already took their best shot and still won. They have to overcome the mental part of not beating us. I'm not worried about this game honestly. Not being cocky as they are a good team but we are better and Mick, the staff and players are really buying in to this winning streak and game-to-game conference slate.

I think this is going to be a tight one. Houston actually pretty tough defensively at home. I think the Bearcats win 72-67.

I love the looseness and quiet confidence this team has going as a vibe right now. It starts with Mick (notice in his preview videos his demeanor and sense of humor) and trickles down to the players. I like the comment they are going to Houston on a business trip.

From CBS Sports...

Quote:No. 5 Cincinnati wary of showdown at Houston

Fifth-ranked Cincinnati's showdown against Houston on Thursday is the second half to the Bearcats' Texas Two-Step, but will be the surging American Athletic Conference front-runner's most challenging dance move in months.

The Bearcats (23-2, 12-0 AAC) are riding high on a nation-leading 16-game win streak that includes a 76-51 victory over SMU in Dallas on Sunday. But Houston, winners of three straight and owners of a perfect 12-0 record in their home-away-from-home at Texas Southern University's H&PE Arena, might be the last true roadblock to a perfect league season for Cincinnati.

"They're undefeated at home even though, like us, they're not at home," Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin said. "That's pretty impressive. We learned hopefully, the first time, that they're a really good team.

"I'm hoping our guys have great respect for their talent level from the first time we played them, how good of shooters they are and how hard they played against us."

The Cougars gave Cincinnati one of its biggest scares of the season when the Bearcats rallied from an 18-point deficit to beat Houston 80-70 on Jan. 31 at Northern Kentucky University.

"They're going to be all fired up because we beat them at home," Cincinnati forward Gary Clark said. "For teams that are all trying to get in the tournament, a win against us would be huge."

Houston (19-5, 9-3) is unranked and underrated by pollsters. The Cougars and No. 19 Wichita State are tied for second place in the AAC, three games off the Bearcats' pace. Wichita State will travel to the Queen City on Sunday for the latest in a series of huge games for Cincinnati.

Cronin is wary of Houston's offensive ability to score as the Cougars rank second in the AAC at 77.0 points per game. Cincinnati is third, at 76.5.

Houston brings its own modicum of momentum into Thursday's game after defeating Tulane 72-43 on Sunday in its most recent outing.

As big a game as it for Cincinnati, it's even more important for the Cougars as they have a chance to not only pad their NCAA resume but possibly lock in an at-large bid with a victory. All the major national projections have Houston safety in the NCAA Tournament, anywhere between a 10-11 seed.

Houston sophomore guard Armoni Brooks earned AAC Player of the Week honors on the strength of his play in wins over SMU (23 points and 10 rebounds) and Tulane (11 points and 10 rebounds). They were the first two double-doubles of Brooks' career.

Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said he understands the challenge his team faces from Cincinnati.

"We have already played them once, it's not like we have to go and study them hard," Sampson explained. "They aren't a hard team to prepare for. They are just a monster to play against. They don't try to trick you with fancy stuff. They line up and have a 100 mile per hour fastball, with movement on it and they say hit it."

Sampson added that the Cougars will prepare for Cincinnati the way they prepare for every game.

"We don't have different ways to prepare," Sampson said. "This game will be a big game to a lot of people outside our program. For us, we have played them and it's another conference game. We are not going to make this game any bigger than our next game."

Cincinnati owns a 30-2 advantage in the series, which began Dec. 21, 1957. The Bearcats have won the last three meetings and 18 of the past 19. A 69-56 Houston home win March 3, 2016 snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Bearcats and was the Cougars' first win against Cincinnati since Feb. 2, 1973.

From the Enquirer:

Quote:No. 5-ranked Bearcats facing tough test at Houston

Tom Groeschen, tgroeschen@enquirer.com Published 9:11 a.m. ET Feb. 14, 2018 | Updated 11:09 a.m. ET Feb. 14, 2018

HOUSTON — The No. 5-ranked University of Cincinnati basketball team is cruising along with a 16-game winning streak, but the Bearcats will face one of their toughest challenges of the season here Thursday (7 p.m.).

UC (23-2, 12-0 American Athletic Conference) will play a Houston team (19-5, 9-3 AAC) that also is projected as an NCAA Tournament club. The Cougars gave UC one of its biggest scares of the season when the Bearcats rallied from an 18-point deficit to beat Houston 80-70 on Jan. 31 at Northern Kentucky University.

"They're going to be all fired up because, of course, we beat them at home," UC senior forward Gary Clark said. "Especially teams that are all trying to get in the tournament, a win against us is huge."

Houston and No. 19-ranked Wichita State are tied for second place in the AAC, both with 9-3 league records. Wichita will visit the Bearcats come Sunday.

UC coach Mick Cronin is concerned with Houston's ability to score, with the Cougars ranking second in the AAC at 77.0 points per game. UC is right behind at 76.5 points per game, and the Bearcats learned in their first meeting with Houston just how explosive the Cougars can be.

In that game, Houston raced to a 33-15 first-half lead despite top scorer Rob Gray (17.7 ppg) having an off night. Senior guard Gray had only nine points in the game, but teammates such as junior guard Corey Davis Jr. (18 points), senior forward Devin Davis (15), sophomore guard Armoni Brooks (12) and freshman forward Fabian White Jr. (10) showed that Houston has plenty of other weapons.

Houston also is 12-0 at home this season, including a 73-59 win on Jan. 20 over then-No. 7 Wichita State.

Houston is playing home games this season at nearby Texas Southern University (H&PE Arena), with the Cougars' Hofheinz Pavilion being renovated. UC also is off campus this season, playing home games at NKU while Fifth Third Arena is being renovated.

"They're undefeated at home even though, like us, they're not at home," Cronin said. "That's pretty impressive. I think we learned hopefully, the first time, that they're a really good team. I'm hoping our guys have great respect for their talent level from the first time we played them, how good of shooters they are and how hard they played against us."

Houston, like UC, also is quick and athletic defensively. Whereas the Bearcats rank No. 2 nationally in the Kenpom.com category of adjusted defensive efficiency (.848 points per possession), Houston is No. 22 in that department (.964).

"We made some really hard shots to get back in that game and give ourselves a chance to win," Cronin said. "Offensively, they can score at all five positions."

SCOUTING HOUSTON: Gray has 1,463 career points, surpassing former SMU guard Nic Moore (1,462). Gray averages 17.7 points per game, ranking No. 4 in the AAC.

Next on the UH scoring list are Corey Davis Jr. (12.5 ppg), Devin Davis (10.7), Brooks (9.6) and senior guard Wes VanBeck (7.2).

Houston ranks second in the AAC in field goal percentage (.461), with UC ranking fourth (.455). The Cougars also are a bit better from 3-point range, ranking third in the AAC (.384). UC ranks fourth (.363).

Rebounding will be key, as UC ranks second in the AAC in rebounding margin (plus-9.0 per game) and Houston is third (plus-6.4).

Houston enters with a three-game winning streak, most recently beating Tulane 72-43 on Sunday.

HIGH HOPES: UC players are trying to stay grounded, with their No. 5 national ranking and long winning streak. The players always focus on their next game instead of the surrounding hoopla, Clark said.

"We haven't done anything yet," Clark said.

Clark, speaking before a workout this week in the Bearcats' practice gym on campus, gestured toward a wall that lists UC achievements such as NCAA titles (1961 and 1962), Final Fours and more.

"We've won a couple games, but the bigger picture is putting more banners up here," Clark said. "That's what we want to do."
