Pshh.

Why would Coog fans go all the way to Orlando just to not watch a basketball game when we can not watch them at home?

I find the Orlando airport to be my definition of hell on earth with all those sugar doped kids coming and going. Also not all that fun of a city at all IMO, just a family vacation spot. I'm passing this year due to all that, and knowing Cincy will be playing the following week.

How many will fly and how many will save up for first weekend tourney game? On the other hand, the novelty of a new locale may be a draw for some. I’d guess somewhere around 1,500 Shocker fans.

I'm saying more based on what people are saying... I'll be flying down from Louisville and have great seats just a couple of rows behind one of the benches... looking forward to the trip, and warm weather!!

So true, Tiger fans would be in the majority. But, like you said, we're not actually the Memphis of the past (good times). We'll be back, and in a strong way, all we need is the right person to lead the charge.

@American_MBB

We are excited to welcome @AaronsInc as the title sponsor of the American Athletic Conference’s 2018 Men's Basketball championship down in Orlando!

#AmericanHoops

Heck yeah, sponsored by Aaron's Rent to Own (sarcasm off)

ECU will have more fans at the away baseball game at UNC-Charlotte than at the basketball tournament.

For the Tiger fans--

Remember when Marshall had about 200 or so, many who drove thru the night, to come watch the their #6 or 7 seeded Herd play the tournament final in Memphis back in 2012? That was a fun tournament. UTEP hung w/ us for the 1st half on Thursday night in the qtrs. Memphis curb stomped UCF by about 30 on Friday night in the semis. We partied at Silky's after the game, and then went back Saturday morning for a 25 point win over Marshall.

Looking forward to when those days return again. Calendar hasn't even hit March 1 and I don't even look at bracketology. Already paying much more attention to spring training than I normally would at this time of year.

Yeah that was fun. Will Barton made us look like the Globetrotters. I'd watch us blow the other team out, and just walk downstairs and get my tickets for the next day's blowout. Polish off the night by gorging on catfish at Flying Fish or chicken at Gus's and drinking at Earnestine and Hazel's.

I was at the CUSA v1.0 tourney in Memphis (the Pyramid) in 1996. Great tourney.

The final four of that one was:
UC vs Louisville
Memphis vs Marquette

All four teams were ranked. It was the only conference tourney that had four ranked teams in the semifinals.

UC beat Louisville and Marquette beat Memphis setting up a UC/Marquette final. UC won that in OT.

Tulane was a bubble team and ended up in the NIT. They needed to win a couple in this tourney and just couldn't do it. They had the three headed monster of Jerald Honeycut, Rayshard Allen, and Laveldro Simmons. They were really good. They just needed another player or two.

Memphis is definitely the best place for the tournament. Best arena, best arena location, walk to great clubs and restaurants and plenty of hotels. Central to all schools, is there another city that can offer all of this.

I went to those games. Almost got into a fight w/ some Louisville fans downtown. Games at the Pyramid were fun. Went w/ an Ole Miss friend to the SEC tournament one year (97/98ish) and we had a couple of extra tickets in hand. Made a nice little chunk of change from the Kentucky fans.

Went to Biloxi for the Metro tournament in 1990 or so. Poor Tulane had just started their program back and had no fans there.... until the 3000 or so Memphis State fans got behind them when they played Louisville. Fun times as a high school kid.

I do hate that we never got to experience the BE tournament at MSG.
