In no particular order -
Kyle Swanston - who couldn't love that hair? and that truck of his LOL
Devon Moore - such a great kid
Heiden Ratner - loved his scrappiness and held a grudge against Matt for not playing him much in his first year ( I got over it)
Rayshawn Goins - loved his backstory and heart
Humpty Hitchens - was so happy to see him return to campus to finish his degree

Bottom line though we have been privileged over the years to bring such great kids to our campus for our entertainment.

I don't go back as far as many of you so I can only go with the guys I've seen. I always liked David Fanning. He was far from the best player I've seen at JMU, but I saw him as a scrawny freshman who couldn't shoot a lick and looked lost. Each year, he developed his game, got stronger, and by the time he left he was a guy that the other team aimed to stop. Those weren't great teams, but I enjoyed watching a guy just work hard and get better from year to year. There's so many guys like that who you expect to progress and you just get the same player for 4 years. I liked him because it was obvious he worked his ass off.

He had a couple of dunks that stand out in my memory that were so athletic...for being 6'...he had some crazy hops!

OK, Here it goes:
1. Steve Stielper
2. Linton Townes
3. Sherman Dillard
4. Dan Ruland
5. Charles Fisher
6. Derek Steele
7. Clayton Ritter
8. Barry Brown
9. Lou Rowe
10.Steve Hood

That is my top 10. Some of the others that have been mentioned didn't make my top ten for various reasons, like Denzel Bowles; no defense.

This is probably the most comprehensive list we've seen. And from someone who's seen IT ALL. Hard to argue, considering Gary's seen EVERY team EVER!

The entire 80-81 and 81-82 squads for being the two greatest JMU teams of all time. Grit, poise and skill. To watch those teams play in Godwin Hall as the pep band got everyone fired up was the best.

surprised Curry isn't getting more love. He was a great player for JMU and didn't have a ton around him.

Good point. I thought about it, but I simply went with guys from my era I watched live on a weekly basis as a student. Again, mine weren’t the best players but the favorites from my day. Curry was money hitting last second/possession shots and leading the team.

Gary & '71 covered most of mine too. Might have included or given honorable mention to Calucko & A.J. Davis. Nice mention of Tyrone Shoulders & Steve Blackman, great roll players.
Games against ODU & VCU in the late 70's- early 80's in Godwin were intense. Enjoyed harassing Danny Kotak of VCU, but he gave it right back.

Clayton Ritter -- never imagined him being so good as a Jr and Sr after seeing him as a freshman

Clayton could always shoot, but improved tremendously in all other areas of his game by the time he graduated.
