Why would you say that. The stadium wasn't even built for the Rays. It was built to entice the Chicago White Sox to move south when they were negotiating for a new park in Chicago.

Shoot, they even printed t-shirts.

I think the Trop owners also made a play for the San Francisco Giants too but I haven't found anything yet. See if you can find shirts for them too. 07-coffee3

Believe it or not I used to have one of these up until a few years ago - kept it around as a curiosity but finally got rid of it.

One correction to the above however - the stadium wasn't actually built to entice the White Sox or any specific team (construction started well before the White Sox opportunity came along). Kinda funny the current argument to use little to no taxpayer dollars on the new stadium over in Tampa when it wasn't all that long ago they built a stadium with no team - things sure have changed (thanks Marlins for milking every dollar out of taxpayers).

The question for the Bowl Game is what happens to the game if the stadium isn't there?

If ESPN wants to keep the bowl game in a baseball stadium they can move it to Marlins Stadium in Miami. I hear there is an AAC Bowl vacancy spot there now. For what it is worth since ESPN owns the bowl they probably could move it anywhere they want too especially if it means getting two P5 conferences involved in it. St Louis has an empty indoor stadium during the Christmas holidays now, within driving distance of B10, B12, and SEC schools. ESPN will just have to rename the bowl after its new location. AKA the new Frisco Bowl. Hopefully it would remain in Sunny Florida with the AAC and ACC associated with it though. 07-coffee3

Keep it in Tampa Bay...make CUSA the preferred backup. Should be ACC Vs AAC...and pre Christmas on hopefully a Thursday/Friday/Saturday

Set it up for a 6-6 or 7-5 ACC team versus the 3rd to 5th place AAC team

Even though Bad Boy is a cool name...gotta try to get Allegiant Airlines to sponsor. They should be all over it and should be able to add extra flights for football fans into PIE from the visiting teams home areas.

Agree but you need a place to play it if they tear down the Dome as some people have stated on this thread. Will the Buccaneers allow 2 college bowl games in their stadium like the Citrus bowl. If there is a new outdoor stadium for the Rays do they make that stadium accessible for one football game in December. Does the Trop stay in place for the bowl and get used for other events in Florida like the Citrus Bowl. Does USF move their home games there. They do have a great option at the Buccaneers Stadium though and I don't know the travel distance for USF to either stadium. Best thing for USF is to build their own on campus stadium and move the St. Pete Bowl there for extra income if they tear the Dome down. 07-coffee3

Unless something changes in the next tie-in rounds, ACC currently refuses primary tie-ins for pre-Christmas bowls.

Kinda ridiculous...any ACC team that finishes at 6-6 should be happy with a warm weather bowl game in a locale fans would like to go to.

Allegiant sounds like a nice idea on paper, but they don't have a great reputation for safety. I suspect they would be better suited to sponsor UCF's stadium once it's broken down and has to be replaced.

Since SS is not broken down and doesn't need to be replaced then what you are suggesting has no grounds within logic and is literally non-sensical.

I mean, how can you have a sponsor for a stadium that is not broken down and as such does not exist ?

You didn't think one through too well either, did you ?

All 7 or 8 USF fans are losing it over the prospect of us kicking them out and inviting Dunk City to take their place.

BTW - even STETSON has an OCS.

Not even remotely worried. Fgcu has no football team, they won't be replacing us.

Great we can go with fau; more fans, more titles, and better facilities.

Overblown...Allegiant has made good strides over the last few years. They fly to 60 cities out of St Pete (PIE)

Hmmm... checking in after staying away from this site for awhile. Thread on the St Pete bowl? Derailed by usual anti-USF troll... nothing has changed.

It's amazing how some folks can get so obsessed that they can't utter a sentence that doesn't contain the school they hate. Man life is too short for this nonsense... 03-lmfao
