Congrats to David. Would be nice if W&M/URI were renewed on the schedule with a home and home.

With Kotie getting more exposure by interviewing for the UNC-Asheville HC spot, I wouldn't be surprised if he potentially gets a higher pay/profile assistant opportunity somewhere, also.

Stay tuned on that last point...

RE: Coaching Carousel
Sounds like coach Kimble is heading to Charlotte

Per Evan Daniels:
"Charlotte’s Ron Sanchez is hiring Kotie Kimble as an assistant coach, a source tells @247Sports. Kimble has spent the last 7 seasons as an assistant at William & Mary."

Yep. Will be nice to have a familiar one around.

Oh man! Not surprising, and we will miss Coach Kimble for sure! Thanks Coach for all you did for our program these last several years! Good luck at Charlotte!

It’ll be interesting to see who Tony brings in for his 3rd asissitant. Last time we had an assistant leave a while ago, he promoted Austin from GA to Assistant Coach.

Kotie is great relationally with the players and a good recruiter. We need to find another coach who does those things as well.

RE: Coaching Carousel
We typically would draw interest from coaches from lower d1, d2, & d3. Tony has shown skillful at identifying coaching talent.

We, also, have some player/alums in Sean Sheldon and Julian Boatner, who may be interested in coming home......

Kotie was a class act. Hard to believe he was here 7 years. Would like to have seen him get the UNC Asheville job.

Interesting that Charlotte plays at Charleston next fall.

Nothing against Sean or Julian, but they're still not that far removed from these players. Sean played with the 2018 seniors and our only senior next year. That would have to be weird.

RE: Coaching Carousel
Kotie Kimble started following former Liberty assistant and now Charlotte assistant Vic Sfera last week.

Though it probably means very little, here are the college coaches with MD, VA, or NC ties that have started following Tony Shaver since the end of the season:

Ace Custis - Assistant at UM-Eastern Shore. Star player at Virginia Tech and played for many years overseas. Previous assistant at Virginia State. Grew up on Virginia's Eastern Shore.

Dom Parker - Assistant at CNU. Previous assistant at Shenandoah. Started as a graduate assistant at Virginia State.

Ryan Joyce - Assistant at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Played DIII at Hood College in Frederick, MD.

And if you go back to end of February then there are a couple more:

Ronnie Thomas - Assistant at Guilford. Played for Bridgewater. From Roanoke.

Nate Dixon - UMBC assistant. Long resume but most recently was the associate head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne and technology and scouting assistant at Charlotte.

David Willson - Head coach at Emory and Henry (who went dancing this year). Previous assistant at Furman and Elon. Played under Tony Shaver at Hampden-Sydney and spent a year at WM doing scouting, recruiting, etc.

Patrick Corrigan - Associate director of basketball operations at Charlotte. Played for Hampden-Sydney (not under Shaver) and is from Richmond.

I don't think Dixon or Willson is going anywhere. UMES has just named an interim head coach so don't know if the situation there is better or worse for Custis.

Guilford is interesting. It has a somewhat crazy basketball history given it's a tiny Quaker school in Greensboro. ML Carr, World B Free, Bob Kauffman, Dave Odom, etc.

Jarren Dyson just started following Tony Shaver. Dyson just finished his first year as an assistant at Lafayette. Previous four seasons he was an assistant at CNU (99-19 record during his four years there). Before that he coached at Tabb High School in Yorktown. Played at Emory & Henry where he was team captain his final two seasons.

He would seem to fit the M/O of the type of young and up and coming coach Tony has hired in the past.

I feel like Wilson is a pretty solid possibility, with his ties to WM/Tony.

And WM is definitely a better job than UMES, unless Curtis thinks he can be head coach there.

Dyson also just started following Austin Shaver. I'd guess he's at least in the running to replace Kotie if not already the guy.

RE: Coaching Carousel
It sounds bad to say, and it may not be the case, but I think that it is important that at least one of the assistant slots needs to be an African American. It seems like it has worked out that way for Shaver's entire tenure. I just want the best recruiter they can afford.

It's not bad to say. It's almost a necessity to have a diversified staff...and I agree, he (whoever he is) needs to be a heck of a recruiter.

Kevin Jones, an assistant at Norfolk State, is now following Jonathan Holmes and Tony Shaver. Prior to his time at Norfolk State the Baltimore native was an assistant at Coppin State and an AAU coach and has strong recruiting ties in the DC/MD area.

Custis is now following Austin Shaver. Austin is following back Dyson.
