Buffalo Men Lose at NIU!
Buffalo just lost at NIU in Overtime, which means the Rockets are now tied with the Bulls for the best record in the MAC!

Buffalo was a sterling 11-26 from the free throw line which is nearly as good as your average Church league team.

Nice, but doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is the game Tuesday.

It matters to the extent that we had no chance to win the MAC if they won out.

If they end up with the same record, they lose the tie-breaker because Buffalo beat them.

Isn't the MAC champion the one who wins the tourney?

Keep winning games, don't worry about what the others do.

I want the 1 seed. And we are fans, we can look ahead and speculate and root for other teams to lose all we want in hopes of achieving what we want.

As I understand it, the MAC Champion is the team that has the best MAC record. That’s why Stan and Todd each won MAC Championships (but never a MAC Tournament Championship). You raise a good point about tie-breakers- I thought they only had them for seeding purposes but I may be wrong.

OK, the MAC site now seems to indicate that there are only Division champs, but as T4C8 mentions, if UB doesn’t lose we can’t be the top seed in the tournament.

A MAC West champion can be 9-9 as it was in 2011?? I believe. And that is banner worthy for us. We upgrade the banner if it's also the best in the entire league. A lot of other teams make fun of us for those banners because they are somewhat self claimed achievements... But it was important rebuilding the program. I believe we had a CIT banner for a year or so then we removed it. Early in coach K's tenure. Maybe the year we lost to Robert Morris? I forget.

But winning the division used to matter in the tourney. Now it's overall record. Which brings us to another point... Divisions are dumb. We are the last league in college bball who uses them.

RE: Buffalo Men Lose at NIU!
I think division winner is guaranteed a top 4 seed, if we went back to the way we had it a few years ago. Not that it really matters though because each division winner will be top 4 95% percent of the time. No I do not have actual data on that haha. But being that one seed if huge, since it guarantees a bid into the NIT, which means a game or more on ESPN

If UT and Buffalo finish tied for the best record, they will share the regular season MAC Championship. Buffalo would win the tiebreaker because of their head to head victory and would be the 1 seed in the tournament, but they would be co-MAC Champions (of the regular season).

This happened in 2013-2014 as UT and WMU finished tied for the best record in the league at 14-4. WMU was the 1 seed because of tiebreakers, but they were both considered MAC Champions.

That’s what I based my original post on but the MAC site had something that made it look like that changed in 2015 to Division titles only because the schedules aren’t complete round robins. I can’t quite figure out the stuff I read.

They never hung a banner for CIT.

I wish we would get rid of the division championship banners.

For some reason I remember one... Maybe CBI. But I'm pretty sure we did. Not for long tho. Maybe someone can verify.

I never remember seeing one for CBI either. I Do remember reading/hearing somewhere that they will only put banners up for MAC Champs, divisions titles, NCAA, or NIT.
