Agree here that we are a football school now. We need basketball to do better to get us into a better conference. Unfortunately attendance will not get better at basketball games until we start winning more games.

If Ehsan doesn’t do well in the conference tournament he might need to go. Unfortunately I don’t think we can financially afford to let him go after this season.

Good grief. Go look at our record. You guys act like we are 2-18. We are winning games. This "Oh god we aren't winning" is being blind. Of course we could be winning more. But not everyone gets to go undefeated.

I agree that Ehsan should go. He needs to get out of here as soon as he can. He is a good person and deserves better than the crappy fans that UAB has.

I'm kinda ticked that people (in general) demanded that Ehsan get hired. They were gonna boycott and bring pitchforks and torches if he wasn't retained.
Now that he's here and doing well, there's no one going.

Eshan is still a young coach and no one can argue there are a few glaring weaknesses in his current head coaching ability. Will he improve with experience? Possibly, but not a guarantee. D-I college basketball isn't a participation trophy sport. It's show consistent improvement, win games, win championships or be gone. That's the reality.

He's just in year two of a five year contract. While there is a buy out, he's not going anywhere anytime soon. But, if he doesn't see the need to make a staff change or two this off-season, learns how to correct the inconsistent and constantly mis-aligned defense AND realizes as a head coach he can not be the players buddy the way an assistant can, then I don't think he makes the whole 5-year run.

That is, unless the stars align and he pulls off a regular-season or conference tournament championship. I'm just not seeing the consistent level of performance needed at this point.

Still I'm at each and every home game, because I come to see UAB play. No matter who the coach is or the opponent is.

i admit, i cant understand the students not showing up. i knew NOTHING of UAB bball before i enrolled. i wasnt a huge college bball fan. in my 8 years as a student, i dont think i missed 10 home games...and they were some of my best college memories (and yes, there were plenty of games where i was sitting in a nearly empty student section)

Look at our record. We are 13-9 in non-exhibition games.
Lets divide college basketball teams into 3 categories using RPI:

1-75 good teams
75-199 average to below average teams
200+ cannon fodder.

We are 2-9 against teams that aren't cannon fodder. Put another way, in games that are meaningful, we have a 22% win rate.

Last year, one of the worse seasons in UAB history, we actually had a much higher win rate against non-cannon fodder teams than we have this year at 45%.

So i guess you are right. People should stay away and not support this team. Because it's not just about winning. It's about beating the good teams. If they can't do that, screw them.

Like I said. UAB fans suck.

was it last year or 2 years ago that they had "Operation ####" (whatever the # was that they said they'd try to get to every game)?

they didnt get that to every game, but student attendance was WAY better that year (and they talked a lot of trash about it)

Even if he does, Ehsan was not hired primarily to improve with experience. He was hired to continue momentum with a core team that upset a #3 seed in the NCAAs as freshman.

He has failed to do that. Say it was injuries, say it was the coaching transition, whatever...he has not accomplished what he was hired to do.

We are now in the Plan B phase of Robert Ehsan's contract.

That was two years ago. Started off great, but by the end of the year there were routinely less than 10 students participating, which sort of looked stupid and led to UAB canceling the program.

MTSU has the top team in C-USA and tickets are cheap. Why isn’t Murphy Center packed?

RE: Door to Door
Seems like in the past, they were bribing students more with free food.

Now they have went away from that its hard to get them to come when they used to get free pizza or whatever.

Knocking on doors is better than nothing I guess. But the coach or the players or both?

Im kind of glad I quit going because the value of season tickets just is not a fair value compared to the price they used to be when we were regularly a much better team.

This is where someone says I'm not a fan.

If 35+ years of season tickets didn't prove it, then fine. call me a bammer.

Jacking up the ticket prices despite a worse product then adding bogus "Ticket charges" to buy season tickets and the fact that they gave away my seat because I was a few days late for a deadline that had not been enforced in 35 years.

I was even going to buy a 6 pack and when i went to do that, they added the stupid order charge or ticket fee or whatever the heck they called it.

So, yeah, I wont spend another dime to go to a UAB game.

I had a boss tell me about three decades ago that its easier to make a customer happy than to get a new one.

Apparently UAB athletics hasn't figured that out yet. Which is fine. But don't blame it all on the fans.

How many other fans have they alienated over the years?

If you want students back at the game. Start with the frats. Were they not over gang green/ inferno?

Also, why do we only canvas, promote, lower prices when things aren’t going great? The only thing they’ve promoted weeks in advance is a USM bus trip.

They didn’t push the Bartow classic after having a pathetic showing in Cayman Islands. didn’t push the game vs MTSU in which we only had 4 losses going into. how about cutting prices then?
