Porter is a very good coach I believe. He just hasn't had some breaks since he left here. Was ready to win at one place(was it Southern Illinois)and got fired. Had he stayed at St. Louis as the assistant, he might have been the coach at St. Louis now.

He seems to be a good fit at Loyola. I think it was Illinois State where he had that good class coming in and got canned, wasn't it? And I agree that he was the heir apparent at SLU.

He didn't get the SLU job when Majerus died, Jim Crews did, who was also on the staff. It was a no brainer for Porter to take the head coaching job at Loyola.

Yes it was Illinois State. I thought Porter had taken a head job before Majarus quit, but I'd put my money on what Peter says concerning coaches. He knows his stuff.

You may have meant this, but my memory of the sequence is Assistant @ LR, HC @ LR, HC @ Illinois State, Assistant @ St. Louis, HC @ Loyola Chicago.
