That's what I was thinking. I saw him doing some drills on youtube and he was getting beat badly but that was with no pads on. That makes big a difference.

Shouldn't it be more of an ego thing to be a player on a full academic scholarship?

Athletic scholly is credibility you are athletic, they cover full cost of attendance, and they are very limited (ie 25yr). Academic scholly is credibility you are smart, they very in range of $ amount from few thousand to full cost of attendance, they are no where near as rare.
*As a parent, I would be honored to have a child awarded either, but we are talking about perception of 18yr olds.

I played offensive guard at Memphis and I watched him online playing as well doing drills. His footwork is some of the best I have seen and he has size. Don't know why anyone would say he's not physical. I did not see anything to indicate that watching his highlights. He will play early. Probably as a Sophomore or redshirt freshman. Says a lot for how far our program has come that we could red shirt Eze and possibly this young man.
As far as being Academic or Athletic scholly it makes no difference. I would imagine it has to do with where the best place to allocate the money is for the school. He will be treated the same as an athletic scholarship.

The only difference I could imagine is if an academic had a higher GPA requirement to retain the scholarship from year to year...

Of course having attended college on an academic scholarship looks better on a resume as well. Re: Dumb Jock bias.
