Republicans are just pure freaking evil...... They hold no true convictions. They are the party of greed. The party of Satan.

And this nonsense is why there is zero bipartisanship anymore. Instead of just having philosophical disagreements the other side is labeled as the personification of evil.

Well, when you have a president like Trumpf, it's not an entirely unjustified statement.

What I really believe is the population lines up by who is afraid of change and who isn't. I think it's generally accepted the majority of older, white males and evangelicals are Repubs.

These two demographics stand to lose the most by virtue of immigration, the accent of minorities and changing religious beliefs. These are the ones yelling the loudest and resisting change.

Repubs have done a masterful job of convincing the blue collar demographic that they represent their interests best by tying religion to the equation and preying on their fears and subconscious prejudices.

What would happen if politicians had nothing to gain financially by being in congress? Would they stop stooping to such low, mean and dishonest methods to split the public?

You know when I read Demoncrats, libturd, and dumb party vs. evil party it really pisses me off. I have no respect for posters who post that, but in anger I post the exact same thing just to make others mad. Isn't that weird? It's human nature I guess. I'm emulating the worst posters on here because..... why?????? It really doesn't make sense. I'm mad that you guys are hypocrits. I've listened for 8 years how Obama is the devil because of the spending. Look at this look at that. Trump gets in office passes a tax cut that costs 1.5 trillion and this spending package is a trillion. It makes me see red...................

Nope. Renewables are a rounding error. Look at this chart.

https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=26912

And then compare that to our oil production, especially since 2000.

https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHa...rfpus2&f=a

Alternatives aren't even projected to be significant in by 2040.

Yea I mean we're no longer paying $3 a gallon for gas.

Anyone besides me remembers when gas was a dollar or less? This was the late 90s.

Correction---they want the middle class to provide healthcare for poor people. Worse yet, because of the Obamacare laws, they want the middle class to provide the poor a level of healthcare that is becoming unaffordable for the middle class. The ruling class in Washington---well--Obamacare is inadequate for them. They certainly dont want a high priced low benefit middle class heathplan. Not, the Washington elite are in a separate, more fiscally sound healthcare plan, thats only for them.

Blow up healthcare. The whole thing needs to be redesigned from the bottom up. Only one rule this time around, I want Washington lawmakers to be on the same exact policy that the rest of us are stuck with. and I want them paying the exact same amount for that policy. Thats when things will get better in Healthcare for everyone.

Actually, it showed how much the parties are the same.

Yep. I'm trying to pinpoint when it was that the dems stole the reps playbook. 1-5 years ago the things you hear from dems today were only being said by reps.

Ive said it many times...The two gangs are just the flip side of a big government coin. The only real difference is where they choose to spend the money they steal.

This is more confirmation that Im correct.

The only part of the supposed republican platform I agree with is that the federal government is far too large and spends far too much money. The problem is the actual belief among most of them is that it’s far too big and spends far too much only on “social programs” but are content to forever increase military spending. At least the Dems are honest that they don’t care about spending.

Democrats and RINOs
Tax and Spend

Actually, spend more than you tax. This servers 2 purposes:
1. It keeps you in debt
2. It gives you an excuse to continue raising taxes

Conservative (and maybe even some Liberals)
Taxed Enough Already (thus the TEA Party)

Stop increasing our taxes and stop deficit spending!!!!!

Years and years ago here in Memphis the city council added a $10 wheel tax to our annual vehicle registration SOLELY to air condition the public schools (City of Memphis School System).

That didn't stop them from complaining about the need to raise taxes to air condition schools.

And about 3 years ago the city relinquished control of City of Memphis schools. By default they rolled up to Shelby County Schools.

So now, the city of Memphis doesn't have to worry about school maintenance.

But they still have the $10 wheel tax.

And now, just this past week, they're talking about putting a referendum on the ballot to increase local sales tax to 9.75%, which is the highest rate allowed by state law).

They say they need the extra money to cover police, etc.

<< heart strings >>

But I wonder what they're doing with that $10 DEDICATED wheel tax these days?

Fiscal conservatism is on life support. We've got a few people who claim it who are basically anarchists and a vast number who only want to cut spending on a few things to make it possible to spend a lot more on others.
Its not so much on life support as it is untenable position in a landscape where the other party is willing to use debt to buy votes. Everyone knows and agrees that the most responsible long term course of action is to eliminate the deficit and pay down the debt. But its in everyone's short term interest to take the freebies the government is handing out. Those people getting those freebies vote. You cant win telling people we are going to make the next 10 years tougher than the last 10.
Lets say there are no cameras around. An ATM is spitting $100 bills into the street. Everyone knows where it came from. Everyone knows its not their money and that it should be returned to the bank. Still, I suspect most people will pick up a few of those bills in the breeze and walk away a few hundred dollars richer--especially if everyone else is doing it. Thats why fiscal conservativism has a tough road to hoe.
I'm going to repeat my observation from about 10 years ago.
The day is approaching where the tax burden will be as high or higher than what people in Europe are paying and we aren't going to be getting the **** they get like medical included in the tax bill, post-K12 education included in the tax bill, paid vacations in the tax bill, and paid maternity leave in the tax bill.
All the costs none of the bling

Our income tax burden is already higher than a lot of Europe. On the corporate side, we are at least now about the middle compared to Europe. They manage simultaneously to provide a more comprehensive welfare safety net and to offer industry and investment a more tax-efficient proposition.

The only solution, without blowing our income tax rates totally out of any remotely competitive range, is to do what Europe does--a consumption tax.

I've run the numbers, and a 15% consumption tax, plus a 15% tax on all forms of business and investment income, plus bumping social security to 15% total (7.5%/7.5%), plus increased Pigovian taxes on alcohol and tobacco and carbon and marijuana (which I would legalize), would give us enough to balance the budget and fix social security with NO individual income tax. That would include Bismarck health care and a guaranteed basic income based on Friedman's negative income tax or the Boortz-Linder refund. And we could cut defense spending by not fighting any wars that we don't intend to win (like Vietnam and Iraq and Afghanistan, or Syria where we don't even know whom we want to win), by converting a large part of our standing military force to reserves (the way Israel and Sweden and Switzerland do today, and the way UK did it for centuries), by reforming procurement (more high/low mix and more design and build to cost), and by getting rid of overhead (we have more people in the Pentagon today than it took to win WWII).

That's it. That's the only way the numbers work. If you disagree, try playing with the numbers yourself.

I agree AND think the corporate rate should fall more with fewer deductions and exemptions to simplify it further. Current code favors large business because small business lacks the capital to take advantage of many tax avoidance strategies.

I worked for the Arkansas taxing authority for more than a decade. Varying tax sources is good POLICY because it reduces the capacity of government to try to shape behavior, it reduces the governments ability to favor an industry or specific company.

A consumption tax changes the political scene as well. With a consumption tax the poor and middle class end up paying more of their earnings and takes the "they don't pay" argument off the table.

In the early income tax period, the income tax a supplement. Tariffs and royalties from government land were larger sources of tax revenue. The income tax was a method to get the wealthy to pay larger percentage of their worth because they could avoid the other taxes which were basically consumption but only certain goods.

Yup. I want to say the original federal income tax was something like 1% of everything one earned over 1 million. It affected very few. Like you said, it was just another supplemental revenue stream.
