Two of the nine newly rated players are three-stars, WR Baxton Collins and DE Kevin Dameron, giving us a total of three along with QB Hayden Wolff. The good news is this places the Monarchs as the number two class in the conference. The bad news is -- this is solely because we have 15 commits. Our average rating is the next-to-worst in the conference at 0.7902 and ahead of only UTEP. Personally, I like just about all of our commits based on their videos, but we are not getting much love from 247Sports on this recruiting class to date.

Whats new...been going on for the last 5 years. headed in the wrong direction recruiting. The new stadium if done correctly should help but even that s looking marginal at best.
I don't know, give me a kid who has some athletic ability is coachable and has a strong work ethic. And I'll take that kid all day. I'm not a huge believer in the star system.
Many people on this board obsess over 247 and the ratings. Our two highest rated recruits on 247 were Bentley and Appouh, both were very high 3 stars, on the edge of 4 stars. Bentley was a massive bust and Appouh is our 3rd best DE. The two best DEs, Ximines and Ward (low two star), were 2 stars when committed. Most of our best players were unrated or low two stars: Heinicke, Pascal, Pinkard, Duhart, Ricks, Wilkins, Clarke, etc.
And, I just saw that 3 out of our 4 three star recruits from the 2017 class are gone and never saw the field: Perkins, Colbert and Keisean Wilson
Bunmi Rotimi of the Chicago Bears was a low 2 Star.

Come on we are talking 1 of 75. That is not what builds a strong competitive program. if we had 10 of those ....much different story.

RE: Football Recruiting: 2019
If 247 is making the same types of rating errors with other G5 programs then everything remains equal. We can point to 4 star busts and 2 star surprises all day, but in the long run I'm going with the program that more consistently recruits higher regarded players. Coaching aside, can anyone point to a program that has consistently recruited at a higher level and consistently underperformed?

Cameron
Wilkins
Rotumi
Heinicke
Pinkard
Morrell
Burnette
Lowney
Vaughan
Just off the top of my head, low rated kids that signed with NFL teams or were close to signing.
Soon to be Clarke/Ximenes/Duhart

Well Texas.
But, its more appropriate to look at our level. We (and Western Kentucky, in particular) consistently outplay our recruiting rankings. LT is the opposite.

Tennessee, Nebraska and Texas (since firing Mack Brown).
All consistently in top 25 in recruiting rankings.
UCLA, UNC and Maryland both have been disappointing regarding the classes they've had but don't quite compare to the others listed.

Smiley's offer list...whew. We didn't make his top 10, but yeah, that would be a phenomenal get!
Hardy? Xemple and ODU are his best offers.
I saw another coach's tweet that led me to think DE, but there is no uncommitted W/SDE from VA that we've offered ...

I would guess Hardy bc he seems interested, but I don't have any scoop and there is no chance he chooses us over Xemple, right? RIght?

Typical DE we have gone after. 220ish that will hit the weight room for a couple years and be 250 when he hits the field?

Didn't take him long to commit. Offered on Monday and announced today. Welcome aboard!

I think the pic he had up was Jun 23 during one of the BWFC events. Quick but not THAT quick!

I’d say FAU was underperforming their recruiting ranking for several years before Lane came to town.

Ben Weiss, CEO of ZCruit, keeps liking every commit we get. Guessing we hired him/them as a recruiting consultant.
