RE: Signing Day
The major difference I see in our current recruiting is that we are getting guys who had offers from big time schools. With Amstutz and even Beckman, we would beat out BGSU or Central Michigan to get the prospects. I have to believe if there is one big reason top players looked at Toledo this year it is Kareem Hunt. When a guy from Toledo proves he can get a chance, then excel in the NFL, this is sure a desired destination.

Yep, I noted that same thing on another thread.
This is what really makes a recruiting class shine. Not based on signing day and the potential, but 3 years later when you look at what they accomplished - and how many are still with the program. That is critically important to success. It is also why coaching changes hurt so much - especially whey you go outside the program and pick an unknown "talent" who was never a head coach before. That is one thing we can thank Beckman for - he gave us a few branches off the tree he planted during the turnaround.
Beckman also came in and saved recruit Page who was ready to go preferred walk-on at Michigan after Amstutz was fired. I think that happened the year before when Jordan Kovacs took a PWO at Michigan after starting out at UT. He may have done it anyway since his dad was also a walk on at Michigan.

Having the highest GPA for all athletes in the MAC doesn't hurt.

RE: Signing Day
another aspect of this class is the addition of rs frosh koback who - by his hs recruiting ratings- would be the top guy in this class. as well as the apparent grad transfers of ruble, the huge florida st OT transfer who- by his hs ratings- would be the top guy in this class. and, also holley, the whitmer kid, who played rb and qb for kent as a starter, and might not play either of those for us, but can play ball and help out somewhere. when you consider it all as 1 class. it is a class with guys who will be impact players immediately. and some guys who will likely be impact players in another year or 2. with potential stars throughout. exciting group of new players. hard to see a recruit here and wonder why they got a ride.

Toledo Football's twitter account had some highlights on each. The kids WR/DB from St. Pete looked like a player...really fast and a hard hitter.

RE: Signing Day
Anyone know what happened to Ty Wiley from Pickerington who was supposed to sign Friday or Saturday because his school had a snow day on signing day?

There's a picture on his twitter of him signing, presumably an NLI, in a UT shirt and hat, so I assume he signed.

Bummer...wonder what happened with him going to UT? I’ll see if my son can get the scoop. Plant has a few kids that should be on UT’s radar this year...not the same talent as in the past, but a few D1 kids.

From what I read, he's being blue shirted. So he'll go on scholarship when freshmen get on campus, practice, but won't play this fall counting against the 2019 signing class. He can be considered a non-recruited athlete by ECU since there was no official contact during the regular recruiting process.
