NIU Game
Entertaining game, but, does Coach K and his staff ever coach DEFENSE?
How did German from NIU score 30 points?
He’s five foot nothing a hundred and forty pound POINT GUARD. He took 29 shots and made us look foolish. There’s a reason they’ve only won 10 games. I was watching MSU vs. Iowa and Izzo was chewing out his superstar for not playing defense. Just sayin.
One last observation, NIU coach is a pain in the you know what..
He’s constantly out of his coaching box and on the floor. Officials didn’t have a clue.

It was utterly unbelievable how he got to the rim play after play. He didn't miss much.

Pretty sure you could get to the rim with Sanford guarding you. That may be harsh but quick guards have made us look silly all year (I’m not really implying anything you’re a quick guard).

RE: NIU Game
I'll post the same thing I did in the other thread. German is the leading scorer in the MAC

RE: NIU Game
Wilder is near the top as is Massinburg. German will surpass them both in MAC scoring because he gets to play us again. Of course you don’t have to have a great % when you take 29 shots but the fact that he made half and was almost never fouled speaks to the matador nature of our D. Good thing we shoot and defend the three pointer pretty well.

Because comments on the game thread aside, he was not driving against Jackson or Sanford. He was driving off Adway and the other non-Fletcher bigs. NIU was (again and again) setting up these mismatches with short picks in which UT players repeatedly switched. A big does not switch to a small. A big is supposed to extend the other team's pick by plugging a hole with body and arms, forcing the drive further out. Then the picked player rotates toward the basket where the player making the pick is almost surely headed to get the pass if the player with the ball, finding he can't drive straight in, will attempt to pass in the lane vacated by the big who is extending the defense.
But instead, our bigs play the drive, which they will lose every time. That's what I saw anyhow.
Coaching.

German is good at scoring. We just don't have much else out there on the floor.

Good thing Fletcher showed up again down the closing minutes. Offensive ball movement took time off most of the second half.

RE: NIU Game
Might just be an impression but it seems to me both Fletcher (who really has done it all season) and Sanford are now using the inside the arc, pulling up for the uncontested 2. I like this. With the Fr and Navigato (off lately) able to pull the D out past the line, I like the offense using this tactic. This will come more important against Buffalo and the hopeful game in the NCAAs against stronger post defense. It avoids those charges against our best shooters.

He had such a great first half, then didn’t attempt a shot until about eight minutes or so in the second half. To me he looked tired.

Pretty losses are better than ugly wins.

Now you all just not being honest if you don't think you'd be braggin on a pretty loss to Kansas or Syracuse over an ugly win againt NIU. Come tournament time? Sure be as ugly as you want. In-season? Some development on the defensive side might be the doctor's prescription to get some of those ugly wins against teams that matter.
