I get why we do, but I am really ready to compare ourselves to a different peer group.
Our peer group for undergrads is ISU. NIU should hire Illinois State recruitment director. They are running at 100% capacity and have unbelievable retention rate.

I think they attract better, more serious students. Are their admission standards higher than NIU's?

I don't think their admission standards are higher, but they are winning the recruiting battle for the kids both schools would like to have.

They have the reputation of party school with beautiful suburban girls. We have the reputation of shootings and muggings. Its not all true or fair, but thats perception.

ISU is 56% Female while NIU is about 50/50 ratio between the sexes. For guys who want the numbers in their favor as far as finding a relationship it's hard to argue against ISU

RE: NIU enrollment down again, but maybe starting to see a light?
Crain's Chicago has had several recent articles about colleges in the area and in the state. One noted that UIC had the highest increase in freshman enrollment of all Chicago metro colleges, noting its $13,000 tuition and their huge financial assistance program which makes going there pretty much free. In a more recent issue (Feb.8) they cited a report from some Illinois fiscal viability commission that the state should shut down one or more state universities. It specifically mentioned WIU, EIU, Northeastern, Chicago State and SIU. (It did not specify which SIU campus but I would assume it was Edwardsville, since SIU has a medical school and a law school.) It did not mention NIU. Also, another article reported that UIC was in discussions with John Marshall Law School to acquire it (not unlike NIU acquiring Lewis University's Law School in the late '70s, much to the chagrin of DePaul, Loyola, Kent and Marshall. U of C and Northwestern could have cared less.). If that happens, that would most likely have some impact on NIU's Law School's enrollment. Sorry I don't have links to these articles, I read these articles at a library (it's a place with books, but that's not important now.)

The bulk of the SIU med school is in Springfield. Carbondale would go before Edwardsville. SIU-E not to long ago loaned SIU-C a ton of MONEY.

SIU Carbondale is the only other University in the state that mirrors the same academic colleges as U of I, so I am not sure it would be the first to go for SIUE. They have many colleges that the others don't have including Agriculture, Engineering, Law, Medicine, & Aviation. It probably just needs to be smaller and more completive which they are working on. SIUE doesn't have any of those programs that I am aware of.

I'm not saying your wrong, But E continues to grow while C keeps getting smaller. SIU-C has a projected freshman class for next year of less than a thousand. They won't be around long with incoming classes like that.
