You'd have to walk a mile in a Shocker's shoes to feel what we feel. A typical Shocker team (by typical I mean what we have been enjoying the last half decade) would have beaten the Temple team I watched on television the other day by 30. Yes, yes... I know Temple has beaten some solid teams at different points in the year. But the Temple team I watched the other evening would have been beaten into submission... similar to what we did to Houston at home.
We've shown flashes of our old self this year, but mostly it's been on and off, on and off, like a flickering light bulb nearing the end of its journey.
The vast majority in this conference have seen maybe half a dozen Shocker games over the years. Frankly, you all are not even qualified to speak on the issue of what the Shockers can and can't do. We KNOW what all of the AAC teams have done over the last half decade save for UConn... and that's nothing.
Just to be clear...a typical Wichita State team would be more like last year's team than this year's team, right?
A typical Wichita State team doesn't look soft. A typical Wichita State team NEVER gets pushed around. A typical Wichita State team takes a 10 pt. lead then proceeds to step on the throat of the opponent turning it into 20. A typical Wichita State team absolutely flummoxes their opponent's offensive gameplan enjoying a significant turnover advantage. (we put up 18 TO's against Houston ). If there's anything a Gregg Marshall team does best, it's take care of the ball. I've seen more sloppy passes in the last couple weeks than I've seen in 8 years.

Nothing screams nouveau riche like justifying your place at the big boy table based upon a "half decade", or five whole years.
My entire argument is based on the last 6-7 years. WTF other reference point would I be using to base my argument on? The way the Shockers played with Xavier McDaniel and Antoine Carr in the 80's?
I've never once pitted the Shockers tradition against UConn or Cincy on a 100 year time horizon. Everything I've been chirping about is the reputation that has been built over the last 6-7 years. Our teams look exactly the same every year, play exactly the same every year, and excel in the NCAA tournament every year relative to their horrific seeding. Nothing more; nothing less.
The play of the Shockers over the last month or so is starkly different than any of us have seen in over half a decade. If you watched hundreds of Shocker games over this time span, you'd be able to see it easily as well. There's a clear difference between the Shockers getting beat by a better team and the Shockers beating themselves. This is what I've been preaching on here since the beginning of time. The AAC faithful are too prideful to admit (and I don't blame them) that the Shocker's reputation as a National Power is justified and was earned.
P.S. I'm not trying to justify the Shocker's place at the big boy table, I let the media do that for me (you don't want me to post the National Power wall-o-text quotes again do you?)
P.S.S. Surely you're not implying that the AAC is currently representative of the "big boy's table" are you?

So...again my question is...was last year's team a typical Wichita State team? You know, the team that lost two players (who were walk-ons) from the current iteration. You know, the team that played in the heaping pile of garbage that is the MVC, rather than the average AAC. You know, the team that cried about getting seeded terribly based on playing no one and who know has to actually play teams with a pulse and who are well coached and who looks like an average team.
Again...maybe you should look at the one thing that DID change between seasons...Wichita State in the past seasons played teams in conference who would capitulate to the "king" and now they're playing teams who have had to fight for every win against comparable competition to current WSU. Gregg Marshall in the past was coaching most of his games against guys with career winning percentages in the .400 range, not coaches like Fran Dunphy, Mick Cronin, and Kelvin Sampson who are proven winners at higher levels than the Missouri States and Drakes of the world. Maybe...just maybe...the thing that changed wasn't the team that returned 11 players, 91% of its minutes, 90% of its scoring, and 8 of its top 9 players...MAYBE the thing that changed was the fact that the AAC is a hell of lot better than what they all supposedly cut their teeth on.

Reading this post gets to the crux of the problem. You are not used to quality basketball. You do not see the nuances between AAC and Mvc athletes. When Rose was elevating over you Thursday, you harken back to the Mvc set shot shooter. I bet you believe that George Miken and the Minneapolis Lakers would beat the contemporary LA Lakers. Well good luck, you have been exposed.
I've never once said that the MVC (on average) has better athletes than the AAC. What I've said is that the correlation between winning games and the number of athletes on a team does not have a high confidence level outside of the most elite conferences. This is evidenced by the Valley's winning record against the AAC.

Go check Michigan’s states terrible resume.
UC has 4 tier 1 wins vs MSU’s 2
UC has 7 tier 2 wins vs MSU’s 4
We have 11 tier 1&2 wins to their 6.
Even worse for them , they only have 1 tier 1 chance left and it’s against Purdue.
UC’s Next 3 of 4 games are to tier 1 opponents. And we have a 4th with WSU to end the year.
We can debate if Michigan state is better then us and I’m fine with that but their resume is god aweful. And they failed to protect home court this year already.
I was also thinking that MSU was a little weaker link. I have not followed them closely, but they got crushed by the Buckeyes and barely beat Rutgers and then another close win after that. Do not see them as dominant.

Good post. This is why I'm cautiously optimistic about UC's resume. The committee has never used tier 1, tier 2 before so it's harder to say how they'll use it compared with how they've used rpi top 25,50,100 wins the last several years. If they use it in a similar manner, UC could already be higher than most people think.
