God forbid we should want to have a traditional college football experience...

I and others have spent an extraordinary amount of time, effort and money to make our gameday as good as possible, trying to build fan interest that was lost over the last decade. A Thur game against a high school team doesn't help.

He'll drive all the way from Memphis to come to the game, I'm sure. He's not a crybaby.

I'm sick of everyone bitching and griping about every g-d thing related to the Blazers. If you care such much about the football team, shut the hell up and support them.

Not everyone has the luxury to take off half day or full day. Kids are in school and want be home until the afternoon, etc. It is about a dumb a move as playing Savannah st to start with.

At least we will be able to beat the crap out of a team on national television.

Not sure if our first high school football game will be that Thursday night or Friday night.

If on Thursday night I will be watching my middle daughter march in the high school band for the first time.

Well I guess there goes that "Clark can do no wrong" theory I read online. How about we all calm down.

You can't fought people for being a little miffed about a thursday night game. I'm sure it's no big deal for the people in town and for those who can manage their own schedule. For people who have to plan or have to manage their time off, I can see the frustration, but it'll be other games. It's some people who want to make every game, but if you can't make it, you can't make it.

Show up if you can. If you can't, see about selling or donating your ticket(s) to someone who can. I had to miss a 3 home games last year and let my friends use them and gave some to others. I'm sure the AD and Clark had their reason behind it. I'm not big on Thursday night games myself, but it's done. As far as scheduling Savannah st goes. I think he wanted to schedule a good (80%) chance of starting off the season with a win and we can't help it if Savannah St moved up their time table on going D2, but it won't hurt our chances of being bowl eligible this year.

We'll buy our seasons and sit in them, as we have for years. We'll cheer for the Blazers and sing the fight song.

That does not preclude me from thinking that scheduling Savannah State on a Thursday night for our opener is completely asinine. Opening day should be one of your best attended games, other than maybe Homecoming and rivalry games. We were already going to have a big falloff from 45k attending, why go out of the way to set things up to not break 15k?

I'm one of the few that's supports us playing on Thursday night for our opener. Yea I have things I don't like about it but lets focus on the positive.
1. First game back against a lesser opponent to work out the kinks.
2. A few extra days to prepare for a Coastal Carolina team that wants revenge.
3. Football will start sooner 02-13-banana
4. I imagine it will be an afternoon/night game which means most likely I wont have to cake myself in SPF 100.
5. Uber is typically cheaper on weekdays.
6. I'm going to bring my family who are all Bama/Auburn fans who would never sacrifice a Saturday to not watch their beloved teams on opening weekend.
7. Beer
8. More beer. 04-cheers

I mean I get the question, but of course you do know the answer, right? It's not like the administration of UAB has the program's unqualified and unbridled success at the forefront of their decision making process

I'm not "bitching and griping about every g**-d***** thing related to the Blazers." But I have spent literally thousands of dollars on all things UAB football. That may not mean anything to you on your throne in west Tennessee, but it does to me. We only have 6 home games, and a lot of us are getting screwed out of one because of this imbecilic move.

Well then you should have demanded that all games be played on Saturday as a condition of your financial support. You would have them on breach of contract then.

We’ll Load up and come home from DC for this one. The most important think for UAB at this point is to solidify the brand recognition we gained through the Wattzi’s stupidity. Nationally people will be hungry for football. NFL exhibition season, puke now, a couple of high profile college TV games-big deal. This game has the potential for lots of eyeballs. Win 56-7, people will pay attention even if you’re playing the Schhol for the Blind.

If S Brown gains 200 yards in the first half and sits down, crushes against Coastal people will pay attention to him and the program

Last thing. I’m with Attila-it kills me I can’t get home for everything. I’m committing to at least 3 home games and the 14 hour trip that goes with it. Time for us to suck it up and wear our big boy drawers

A 100% "perfect game score" might be UAB hosting Bama at Legion Field on ESPN on a perfect summer Saturday at prime time. Every different factor deducts from that "perfect score" -- different opponent, different day & time, inclement weather (remember the Wednesday "monsoon game"?), starter players injured, school night plus whatever affects you in particular.

In regard to weather, we may find ourselves thinking on that Saturday how fortunate the game was moved to Thursday if a severe weather event happens that Saturday. Also, during the "winter of our discontent" following 12/02/14 we may have been willing to play on Thursday every week as the price of having our team back. We were a very desperate bunch that winter.

Truly amazing. Seriously.

Daniel Day-Lewis could learn a thing or two from you about committing to a role.

the game is literally MONTHS away. On a holiday weekend. this gives everybody plenty of time to plan ahead, make arrangements, schedule a vacation day whatever you need to do if you want to make it to the game. Its not like this move was made a few days or weeks out.

You know who plays every game on a Saturday at the exact time scheduled months in advance? D3 schools. You want to be a D3 program? I hear a lot of pi$$ing & moaning about the P5 but you want to know when those games are going to be played? You have to wait a week and a half before the games so the tv networks can choose the games they want to show. It could be anywhere between 11am & 8pm.

If UAB football is important to you, arrange your schedule around it. If other things take precedence, don't blame it on UAB...your decision not to go is YOURS.

This mentality and attitude is silly. The decision to not go is almost always OURS. How many of the 45,000 people at our 2017 season opener made the UAB game take precedence over other things that day? What would it have been if it had been a weekday school night? Obviously there was still hype surrounding the return, but you don't think attendance would have been affected? Only about 14,500 "true fans" made it out on Thanksgiving weekend and they had 10 months to plan for it.

Saturdays and Football go hand-in-hand during the Fall in the south. Part of what made this season's experience so great was the gameday experience that involved making your whole Saturday Blazer-related.

The reason for having games on Saturdays are obvious. For the most part, attendees don't need to take time off, kids don't need to go to school the next day, you have more options for kickoff times, you have more time to prepare day-of/get to the game/get home, it allows non-local folks an easier schedule for travel, etc.

I don't care for night games...and I hate Thursday games....but my personal preferences aside, I think it is a bad marketing move and I don't buy Clark's or Ingram's comments on it.

We are in fanbase-building mode...you don't build a fanbase by making season openers LESS accessible. OF COURSE we can plan for it, take vacation to make sure we make it, etc...but if we only want those that will do that to come to the games, why did we bring the program back to at all? We need to grow.

I mean...why build a new stadium downtown when real fans will continue to go to Legion Field?

im not mad about the change. it is what it is. i dont like it for me personally, but thats just for me and my family.

however, to assume that EVERYBODY could make it with this much notice means that you dont understand everybody's life.
i agree, most people can. but not everybody.

i was able to make 3 games from 900 miles away. i hoped for more next season, but this is one i was banking on that i now probably (not definitely) cant make
