got to wonderin' how old pete was when he got his 3,000 and stumbled upon this
Quote:44-game hitting streak
On May 5, 1978, Rose became the 13th player in major league history to garner his 3,000th career hit when he singled off of Montreal Expos pitcher Steve Rogers. On June 14 in Cincinnati, Rose singled in the first inning off Cubs pitcher Dave Roberts; Rose would proceed to get a hit in every game he played until August 1, making a run at Joe DiMaggio's record 56-game hitting streak, which had stood virtually unchallenged for 37 years. The streak started quietly, but by the time it had reached 30 games, the media took notice and a pool of reporters accompanied Rose and the Reds to every game. On July 19 against the Phillies, Rose was hitless going into the eighth inning when he walked. His team was trailing in the ninth inning and the streak appeared over, but the Reds batted through their entire lineup and gave Rose another chance to bat. Rose faced Ron Reed and laid down a perfect bunt single to extend the streak to 32 games.
He would eventually tie Willie Keeler's 1897 single season National League record at 44 games, but the streak came to an end on August 1 when Gene Garber of the Atlanta Braves struck out Rose in the ninth inning.[11] With two outs and a full count, Garber decided not to challenge Rose with a fastball. He took full advantage of Rose's predicament by throwing him an off-speed pitch out of the strike zone, which Rose swung at and missed. Rose was sour after the game; he blasted Garber and the Braves for treating the situation "like it was the ninth inning of the seventh game of the World Series".[12] Garber was not insulted by Rose and took the comment as a compliment: "I said to myself, 'Well, thanks, Pete. That's how I try to pitch every time I'm in a game'."

Stole this post from redszone. Somebody was asking if there was video of TT's triple (that he thought was gone). Response follows:
"Here it is and it's glorious. The best is the reaction when he gets back to the dugout. Love Buddy Reed. He was a blast today.
The Reds have been a great watch the last month or so, but I may have enjoyed this future's game as much as any baseball I've seen this season.
A lot of talent. Seems the game is in for a talent boost soon.
Love that picture in Hawk's signature of the three amigos! Would love it even better if one of them can help the NL win for the first time in the last 6 tries. The AL has also won 16 of the last effin 20 All Star games. Pathetic.

Guess I'm just old, but I remember when the AL couldn't win an ASG if their lives depended on it.

Yes, you're an old coot Jackie. LOL!. I only went back the last 20 games because that is the most recent history. I don't know how far back you are referring but you must have an elephant-like memory. The 20 games before the current streak of 20 (between 1978 and 1997) it was pretty even - NL 11 wins/AL 9 wins. If you go back another 20 games prior to that (1960-1977) the NL dominated 18 to 2. I have some memories of the all star games from the late 70's but that was about 40 years ago for me.
Biggest question facing the second half of the season: are the Reds contenders or pretenders? I don't mean contender to win the division or nab a wildcard spot but can they continue this incredible momentum they've built since mid June? We shall see. If you want to move up from the basement in the division you have to beat the teams that are above you. Two division series begin at home: the Pirates tonight followed by the Cards on Monday. Another question: will the Reds be sellers, buyers or stand pat as the trading deadline nears?
