RE: JMU @ Drexel fight for last place
The 9 game streak is done and our last hope is shot. JMU is now worse than the worst team in the CAA.

Odds of winning the CAA tourney coming out of the Keener round are about 0.1%

We are like the exact opposite of Elon’s football season.

RE: JMU @ Drexel fight for last place
I only tuned into the second half. Video stream and sound worked flawlessly.

The quality of BB on both sides was good, and it was an entertaining game, even though the final results were disappointing for JMU fans.

My takeaway is that this JMU team (and this has been commented on by others many times) looks more athletic and capable, and (at least in the 2nd half) the guys were competing hard.

I don't like seeing the Dukes lose, but I don't feel as bad about this loss than I do watching the Keener teams, which were often not even in the same time-zone as other CAA opponents. If the guys don't give up, the nucleus is there to create a very good team.

Also, Matt Lewis is a straight up star. I think he is better in his freshman season than Cooke curry or nation.

Matt Brady will have won more games in his last season than Rowe wins in his first two combined

If this team wins even one CAA Tournament game this year, Rowe has accomplished more.

Is our best play at the end still to give it to Stuckey and let him freestyle? We've tried that all season it seems and I think it worked once.

Watched Jacobs and thought his defense was great. Boxing out, contesting shots, and getting boards. I think that's why Rowe gave him more minutes.

You realize they have been doing that for at least a decade, right after every win? They took that and rollouts straight from the big five. Actually earlier this season Drexel almost cost themselves a win when streamers got thrown on the court before the game was actually over which led to a technical foul, similar to your hot dog incident a few years ago.

What kind of streak is JMU on in that regard? I seem to remember it was quite a roll.

Al Davis: "Just cover baby!"

I have their ATS record as:
Last 3: 3-0, 3 units
Last 10: 6-4, 1.6 units
Season: 11-11, -1.1 units

The underdog in JMU games has now beat the spread in the last 7 straight, 9 of the last 10, and 12 of the last 14.

Dukes should be getting anywhere between 4 and 7 points from Towson Saturday. You know what to do. 04-cheers

. He can't stay out of foul trouble and he seems to give up when he's frustrated. Let one of the younger guys get more minutes.

Agree 100%. Phillips has the worst body language on the court when things are not going his way. He just seems to lack effort and energy and gives-up and then just goes thru the motion. It is obvious now why he is on his 3rd school. Has plenty of talent but lacks effort/grit/heart. I would let the bench motivate him and go with as you said Wilson and Jacobs who neither lack effort. You should be able to book Phillips for 10 & 6 every night and he cannot do that with any level of consistency.

RE: JMU @ Drexel fight for last place
In person observations: This team has a lot of trouble defending. Especially the bigs. They are either playing matador defense or foul. I think Jacobs will be a player, he is agile and has a great frame. He'll bulk up and get stronger.

That said, right now, the team is better with Phillips on the court than not. I agree, he seems to be lackadaisical and not play with fire...but he has good post moves and passes very well out of the block. He's got to stay out of foul trouble.

'98 and I were lamenting why our guards didnt post up Drexel's smaller guards, particularly in the first half. Too often would run a bunch of useless motion and then a rushed 3 would get jacked up. Lewis and mosely had 4-5 inches on whoever was guarding them.

Lewis is a stud.

Talent there...I just hope they dont rot on a team that isnt being coached up.

Your post up observation with Lewis is spot on. If I recall correctly from the home game against Drexel they have one starting guard that looks to be 5'10" at most. That kid was guarding Lewis and JMU in that game did post him up early 2/3 times and was successful each time and for some reason went away from it. I would do that everytime down the court with Lewis/Mosely/Banks with that kid on the court if they play man-to-man. That would force them to do 1 on 2 things, switch to zone or take him out of the game. That is exactly what other teams do to us if Joey Mclean plays for an extended period....take advantage and exploit the height advantage on offense on switches, etc... and post him up.
