Hmm...Methinks something may be brewing. Could he be going to the U.S. Supreme Court? This conservatarian certainly hopes so.

One of the older ones might be retiring soon. You never know.

Congress needs more like Gowdy, who do their service and move on, and less like bernie sanders, who has never made an honest dollar in his life, having spent the last 30+ years accomplishing absolutely nothing.

Anxiously awaiting Tom's sizzling hot take about how a seat that Gowdy won by 36 points is the dem's for the taking, and more evidence of muh blue wave.

This does NOT open up a pick up opportunity for the Dems for an open seat. It does, however, show something is up.

It could be

1) That Gowdy thinks that he might simply be trying to angle for some sort of federal job. Although that doesn't make sense because he's not retiring until January of next year, when the political dynamic might not be so amenable to a Gowdy nomination. Of course, they could appoint him prior to that.

2) Gowdy simply wants to cash out and have Fox News give him a cushy pundit job to pay him back for carrying his water.

3) Gowdy could recognize that being in the minority next year isn't going to be helpful to his career, especially once the Trump administration scandals really start blowing up and the Dems start getting control over investigations. And not being in office will avoid him having to be labelled a massive hypocrite if he defends Trump in the face of multiple scandals after going after Benghazi. Basically, next year, Gowdy will be faced with a situation where he's going to feel politically compelled to try and fight investigations against Trump.

4) Some sort of scandal.

No one thinks Gowdy wants to be finished with politics.

I think its door number 3. Either way, its not a good sign for the GOP

I can't believe you forgot the option that he's going to work for Putin.

The gay internment camps are not going to build themselves.

Already built and operational in Southern Russia. Not one peep of criticism by Donald Trump. But that's off topic.

Either way, why do you think Gowdy decided that now was the time to cut and run?

He hates DC?

I hate DC, too. Wouldn’t live there if my life depended on it.

He was apparently already offered a 4th Circuit seat (?) and declined. Says he wants to go back and be an attorney as I suggested he would yesterday. He’ll stroll straight into a seven figure job within a week.

From +15, to +5, to now +2.

Quote:A New Poll Looks Mighty Grim for Democrats

It’s just one poll from one polling outlet (albeit one given an A+ rating for accuracy and sound methodology by FiveThirtyEight).

Worst of all for Dems, a 15-point advantage in the generic congressional ballot in December (51/36) is now down to two points (47/45). This equals the smallest Democratic advantage in any poll since the beginning of the current election cycle.

Ah, okay. That makes sense. I just think he'd make a great Supreme Court justice.

Oh, I don’t disagree there, there are several Congress critters that would.

But he’s going to put some serious $$$ in the ol account before embarking on something like that.

Even judgeships pay squat comparatively, he’s gotta sock some away to make sure the family is all set etc.

I do not want to see Gowdy in the judicial wing.

I tend to agree with him on policy but I do not want ideologues in the Courts.

Was told earlier today by someone in the Upstate that the word there is he's opening a practice in Greenville and going back to being a lawyer.

Our best and brightest are not in congress. It saddens me that we are losing one of the best.

I think he is really disgusted with Nunes right now. Since he is a lawyer, and did see the info of the FISA warrants and all that against Carter Page, and knew that the Dossier was not part of it. He is a lawyer by trade, and one of them that could buck Trump and Nunes in the future.

Lol.

Not even sure why I bother.

But Gowdy was instrumental in writing the “memo”. Disgusted with Nunes? About what? The summary of the Intel he crafted?

Evil Knievel couldn’t or wouldn’t try and make this leap...

But, by all means, carry on. You’ve got some company on the left/lunatic fringe around here.

I think that Gowdy has simply had enough of the sausage making and wants out. Plus he has made it abundantly clear that he doesn't like much else about living in DC. He wants back to the Piedmont.

I have a friend (HS classmate) that is connected in the Greenville/Spartanburg area. He knows Trey well and helped him get elected. He says he hears he is looking at going into the DOJ or other similar type position.
