RE: UTSA makes 15-28 three pointers
The problem is we let teams get comfortable shooting the 3. We need to start the game with 3pt denial intensity. The first few go in while we're trying to determine if its gonna be a good night for them or not. In the meantime, the opposition is gaining confidence with every shot that goes in so that when there are finally contested 3s their comfort/confidence level overcomes it. Much like in football when you have top get the QB "off his spot", you cannot let 3pt shooters set their feet where they want to. You can't depend on the percentages - "Well, they can't shoot like that all night!". Well, maybe not, but that can shoot well enough to win.

Don't think it's much they can do different instead of sticking to their man. We play four guards and 3/4 is 6'2 at most. You could probably just shoot over these guys.
Part of the reason i say play Gueye on the perimeter, he stands a better chance at closing out on shots. We could use him how Bama uses Herb Jones. Need added athleticism in the backcourt along with height so the backcourt can become a real strength.

I would kinda like to see Gueye guard a wing man-to-man. I think his length could cause problems and I think he's quick enough to not get beat to the basket on a consistent basis, especially with help defense. We typically see Gueye in the 1-3-1 zone where he's effective ...when he's aggressive.

Depends on where he lines up in 1-3-1 shows he should guard a wing. He has a nice shot, would be the tallest guard we have since most is 6'2. Would go on a limb and say we wouldn't need Fredricks if we play Mak on the perimeter using the 13th scholarship for something else (point guard play or a true big).

I agree. Confidence is everything in shooting. Once they get their confidence ramped up, they believe they can make anything. UTSA’s Jackson had a ton of confidence in his shot on Saturday.

You can make the stats tell you what ever you want to see in them...and I see a tired team.
http://www.uabsports.com/cumestats.aspx?...&year=2017
Over the last 5 games for our guys, steals are down, personal fouls are up, free throws attempted are down, free throws made % is down, (even ignoring the skew of the WukU game) 3 point shots taken is up and 3 point shots made % is down. And we're late to defend the 3

Like mentioned, early on pressure tends to set the stage for the game.
When you allow them to shoot 3's uncontested the first 8 minutes of the game they will continue to shoot 3's.
How about a full court relaxed press the first several minutes of the game & here & there as necessary?

We close out on defenders in order to contest a shot, but we should be closing out to prevent the shot.
