Sweet irony.
I don't know about you guys, but never in my wildest dreams did I think this would all blow up in the way that it has.
Think back to how it all unfolded during the campaign.
Journalists publishing stories almost daily about reliable sources within the government's intelligence services possessing astounding information that the Trump campaign was in direct contact with Russians who were offering to rig the election in his favor.
The happenstance tarmac meeting between Attorney General Lynch and Bubba to discuss golf and grand chillins, while Bubba's wife and soon-to-be president just happened to be under investigation for violating federal laws.
FBI director Comey's strange news conference where he laid out all the reasons why Hillary Clinton should be indicted for her off-line basement server, then saying there'd be no indictment even though the decision was not his to make.
The Steele Dossier, loaded with intelligence that placed Trump squarely in a position to be blackmailed by the Russians and thereby giving credence and momentum to the investigation of his Russian links.
The news leaks about important Trump associates and campaign staff being under investigation by the FBI.
Every day it seemed it was a new scandal surrounding Trump. The man was doomed!
And then on November 8, 2016, something happened, the Day that Changed Everything. A new history was put into motion. With time, that distant horizon that had seemed so confusing and unbelieveable, suddenly began to clear.
Actually, it all began to unravel.
Today we not only know that the Steele Dossier was an unverified compilation of gossip fed to a former British spy by the Russians, we learn that the document was bought and paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign itself.
We learn that the intelligence in the possession of the FBI, was the Steele Dossier itself, which had been shopped around to news outlets who wouldn't touch it yet the FBI even considered paying Steele for the document.
We learn that the FBI team investigating Hillary Clinton's off-line basement server were Trump-haters, feared he might actually be elected, and that the decision to not bring charges against Hillary was made months before she was even interviewed in the investigation.
We learn that the slow drip of names associated with the Trump campaign and being investigated by the FBI came from White House sources who were unmasking those individuals and leaking the information to the press.
We've learned a lot yet I have no doubt that there's a lot more to learn. In the end, I believe we'll learn that the administration of a sitting Democrat President used our intelligence agencies to spy illegally on American citizens, in collusion with his annoited successor who was colluding with Russians via a British intermediary, to affect the outcome of a presidential election in their favor.
I look at these events in disbelief. How could this have happened in America, today? How could these people have been so stupid to have done these things putting their careers and perhaps even their personal freedom on the line?
And then one remembers. There was a certainty about it all. They'd never be discovered because the orange buffoon would never, ever, be elected. Ever.
And had Her Thighness won, they'd have been right.
Enjoy the ride my fellow political junkies. This one is far from over.
Oh, and buckle up.
