What a difference in the 2nd half. Tightened up on defense. Drove the lane and took advantage of UBs foul trouble. Terrific effort.

A lot of intensity out there tonight on both sides. When UB has it rolling, they are amazing. Offensive powerhouse. Flashes had to weather a serious storm in the first half.

Man. Had to leave the house and we were down double digits. Checked the score once while out and about. Appeared it just wasn't going to happen. Got home clicked on the board and before I opened the thread checked to see how many we ended up losing by. Boy was I surprised! Great evening.

In more recent history Shayne Whittington played 2 years in the NBA out of WMU. His Jr year was very comparable to what AD is doing right now. He improved some in his Sr. year but not a crazy amount. And both of those guys stints were before the invention of the 2-way contract. If I was an NBA scout the big thing that would stand out to me is he's not blocking shots the way you would hope from a 7 footer and he turns it over too much. Other than that he checks off a lot of boxes scouts look for, size, length, moves well, free throw shooting, can hit mid range jumpers, plays with intensity. I'm not saying he's a lock by any means or that he'd ever get more that a cup of coffee. Just that I wouldn't be surprised if he's on the radar for teams this time next year.

I hear you...personally I think Whittington was much better than ADL but I certainly see the compairison to Big John. ADL's stats this season are probably significantly better than Edward's were as a Junior (John had Gates doing a lot of scoring and rebounding). The thing that made John stand out was his shot blocking...Very long arms, decent timing and a pretty hops.

ADL is gaining confidence and is getting better! He tends to play better against teams without much size in the post. Thought Toledo's post outclassed ADL. Let's see how he does against EMU. Should be interesting. Thank God we've got a big man worthy of discussing the NBA or P5 schools!

This was a great game for ADLR - he was at center most of the game, wrestling with either Ikenna Smart or Nick Perkins for the whole game. Smart fouled out with 4 minutes left, Perkins got sent off with a double T in the last minute. De La Rosa ends up with 20 in 38 tough minutes. There were a bunch of bad feelings and stuff that didn't get called.

Pippen also had 21 points and 13 rebounds.

It was sloppy defense and wild shots in the first half. In a previous post, I said I didn't think Senderhoff was preparing the team well this year, but he pushed the right buttons tonight, and got the team playing well at the end. The game started 43-25 Buffalo, and over the last 21 minutes it was 57-36 Kent State

RE: Kent State vs Buffalo
Some thoughts. Buffalo is really good. That last 15 minutes or so is the best I've seen Kent players all year. Pippen was an absolute monster. Buffalo did a really good job of taking our top two perimeter scorers away for most of game. Credit to Avery and Pippen, they stepped up when needed. When we were down big and it was looking bad Perkins from UB might have helped us out a lot. He gave a two hand shove to AD mid play that wasn't called. It got the crowd really fired up and it seemed the team as well.

Amazing. Walker is shut down for 25+ minutes and ends up with 13, Zabo only has 8(although he did have a big three late) and Delarosa, Pippen and Avery carry us to 80+ points. Who would have predicted that. That was the most exciting game from start to finish in quite awhile.

All I have to say tonight is, if you were at the game tonight, you deserve credit for the win. I know attendance isn't what it once was, but tonight really felt like like the good old days in the old barn.

Oh, and this one deserves a post of it's own... The big shot AD made late was huge in so many ways. He went to his left hand! His left hand! He literally never goes to the left. Guys over play him to the right and he still works his way back to it. The left is usually wide open for him. If he starts scoring with his left he's going to be so difficult to defend. And it was clear he wanted everyone to know he did it with his left. He held his left hand up the whole way down court a la John Wall.

Loved how we took advantage of Buffalo's foul trouble. I wascritical of Sendy's offense for years. The plays are running smooth now and the team looks like a well-oiled machine.
Can't wait to head to BG Saturday!

YES! I almost didn't go because of a rough day at work. That crowd was fun from the student section to the rafters. The way things were 15 years ago!

Great move and an overall great game for ADLR! Happy to admit I may be wrong about his NBA potential. John Edwards never had ADLR's post moves (not what we saw last night and certainly not his Junior year).

ADLR has improved a lot just in the past few months. His confidence is surging.

Eating Crow never tasted so good!

I really like ADLR, but what I've noticed - he played 38 minutes yesterday. 38 minutes without fouling out. I thought that would be the major flaw; he would always be limited to 20 minutes because of foul trouble. And I think he's only fouled out once in the last 12 games or so.

He stayed out of foul trouble because his defense was almost nonexistent particularly in the first half. Hopefully he can continue to learn to be aggressive without fouling and develop a defensive skill set to match his improved offensive game.

Buffalo fan that made the trip.. I thought your crowd last night was fantastic and I know it sounds cliche, but they were the sixth man!

De La Rosa is a handful and I really think those three's Pippen hit at the end of the first half was the turning point in the game.

Yes I know it got a little chippy at the end, but this really could be a great rivalry between these two schools. I know you guys have Akron, but I would love for the MAC to bill these meetings between Buffalo and Kent State as marquee match ups. However, with both being Tuesday night games, they won't get put on national TV.

Good luck and we will see you again in like two weeks here!

One of the better performances by a Kent team in recent memory. especially considering the opponent.

This team has now beaten #1 and took #2 (Tol) to the wire in their house. I think we will be fine for rest of year and into the MAC tourney

GO FLASHES!!!!!!!

He was definitely getting beat a lot in the first half. Every time Perkins got it outside the arc he drove by him. Part is one AD for sure but the help defense was lacking as well. Most 7 footers are going to get beat off the dribble outside. Even though Perkins looks really big he's got a decent first step.

In regards to his post defense I think it's usually pretty solid. He could improve his help defense though as well. He doesn't seem to challenge shots when someone else's man gets in the lane. To me this seems like a side effect of the foul issues he had early in the year.

that was a GREAT win! :) 02-13-banana

think about it.. UB is talented as all get-out. they just kept on scoring, scoring.. hot from the field.. yet we were still able to win! its not like we caught them on an off night. they had a good night (very good night) & we still go the W.

you can't teach mental toughness. you can't teach the will to win.

think about it: pippen is a sophomore. let that sink in.

who's road tripping to BG? if i lived in NE Ohio, i certainly would be :)
i'll be takin the cross country flight on march 7th (red eye) arrive 7AM on the 8th - mac tournament here i come!! 04-rock

How Valpo beat KSU is still a bit perplexing. Valpo is dead last in the MVC. NE and Albany I understand a bit as both are very short led mid-majors this season and Loyola-Chicago is in first place in the MVC and really separating itself from the rest of the conference. But we’d like to have the Valpo game back.

An exciting & encouraging win. The team chemistry & experience is really coming together.

DP continues to impress. Great example of how conditioning & practice pays off.

Is ADLR becoming a force? Still an adventure when he handles the ball below his waist, but getting better. Possesses a lot of finesse. If he gets stronger, look out.

You cannot overstate the leadership qualities of the back court guys. And DP & MP are developing these qualities as under-classmen.

Now onto BGSU. Beat-down, not let-down.
