Mick found spots for him and he grew in his role. We're seeing the results of that. He is flowing so much better right now with the offense than he was earlier. He is on the same page with the guys on the floor on both ends. He's been really impressive and I'm stoked he clearly continued to work hard despite not getting all the minutes he probably wanted (and an injury that I'm betting set him back a bit too).

i just had an issue with his defense. i realize that the +/- (or other stats that have been proffered) may favor him overall but i know what i see. That said, his offense has been fire of late and the young man can get to the rack and knows how to finish.

He's a mismatch on the offensive end against the shockers. Their guards can't check him and he abused frankamp the last time they matched up. if he can hold his own on the defensive end of the court; he should see the bulk of the minutes. Can't play 4 v. 5 on offense even against a mediocre shockers D and expect to come away with a W.

Well what you see is mostly wrong. He's never been a major defensive liability.

And as for the comment above that "it took Cane time", that's mostly wrong as well. In the first 10 games of the season, for the games that he played 20 minutes or more he averaged nearly 14 points a game. He's been ready since day 1. His only real area of tiny concern is turnovers. But he offsets that by having the highest assist per minute number on the team.

I don't agree with this at all. You watch him on the floor and he has a far better understanding of what the team is trying to do on both ends. His team defense and team offense is vastly different. Cane could always get his, that was never the issue. He could always break teams down and create a shot or two for others as well. The big areas of improvement is now he does all of that within the flow of what everyone else is doing. He understands where to be so that the offense keeps moving. He also better understands his rotation on defense. He's hand the skills all season, but now he understands how that fits into what they are doing and it is paying off.

So why did Jenifer start ahead of him all this time? Because of a "tiny concern" over turnovers?...Mick has benched our best option offensively and defensively for the majority of the season? Eff it. He should lose if effing job if that's the case.

I'm fine with how we've managed the Broome/Jenifer situation.

he's never been this gaping hole in the defense, but that might not necessarily be because of him. he does get lost, guys can drive on him.

but the way this team plays defense, the help is almost always there and the defensive rotations cover up a lot. i don't think he was nearly bad as a lot of people here said, but on this team i don't really think its a big deal and i really don't think there is a much of a difference between him and jenifer when it comes to how strong the defense is with either in the game.

i agree with others that it took cane time to play defense like we play it, but thats not unusual, you have to learn that in game. practice can only take you so far. but you learn more with more minutes, its still amazing to me that they split time. i feel like broome, and the team, would have benefited from allowing him to learn and play through the mistakes and get around 28 minutes per game. its undeniable who the better player is and who helps the team more. it has been from the beginning.

RE: Is Cane Broome The X Factor?
Dudes. Here's a few things I'm diggin' about Broome. He's peaking at the right time. He's playing some of his best, most consistent basketball in.....March. From my vantage point he has steadily improved on both ends of the floor and seems to be buying into Mick's system and better understanding his role. We know that success in the NCAAT is based a lot on good, solid guard play. What a bonus to have him getting more comfortable and confident as we speak. We knew he could shoot from beyond the arc, but he can create his own shot and I don't think there is a player on the team with his quicks to drive to the hoop from a standing still position. Check out these numbers for comparison sake:

First 10 Games
FG% .514
FT% .625
3P% .391
TRB 18
AST 28
STL 14
TOV 22
PPG 9.6

Last 10 Games
FG% .525
FT% .692
3P% .435
TRB 13
AST 21
STL 7
TOV 11
PPG 8.3

Last 5 Games
FG% .658
FT% .857
3P% .583
PPG 12.6

What stands out is his shooting percentages are better and his turnovers are way down. Good for us if he can hold that trajectory for the coming weeks.

Also, he's a junior so I can't wait to see him next year after he has time to work on film and develop his game further over the offseason.

If Broome could tighten up his handle, he could seriously be 1st team all league next year. He has elite quickness, but gets very hesitant at times because he knows his handle isn't the best. If he can continue to perfect that tear drop floater that can be a major weapon as well.
