I nominate a city without pro football- Detroit

RE: XFL is back!!!
Currently watching the 30for30 “this was the XFL” and during the wk2 Double OT game that spilled over onto the start of JLo & SNL. And i see the back of Tim Lester’s jersey! I honestly dont remember watching 1 quarter of that mess.

GR needs MLS like I need another hole in my head.

Haha, what a joke
This will die after a year just like the pathetic XFL. Broke ass Trump supporters isn't exactly a growth market.
Screw McMahon, scumbag.

It might be dead in the water because of those last two points. Non-criminals and "no political stance". He's making it political by making it "non-political".
There was a good concept with shorter games, streamlined rules, etc...but he had to ruin it

Dead in the water because no politics? I think you vastly underestimate the amount of people who are sick of turning sports into Facebook slapfights over non-sports issues.

It's already inherently political. That's the problem. It would be great if it were truly non-political.

I don't think the rules imply every player has to be apolitical or moderate, just to keep it off the playing field, which is fine in my book. Nobody had a problem 10 years ago when Scott Fujita talked about politics off the field, or at least nobody had a football-related problem with it.
Anything that takes away from the focus on the game once everyone is inside the stadium is a misuse of the institution of football, in my opinion; even elaborate ceremonies and making uniforms pink or like the American flag. But, then again, I am a curmudgeon.

As long as the national anthem is played before the start of every sports event in this country, the “stick to sports” position is completely empty. I’ve never understood why some people think it’s so important to keep the two separate. I don’t like commercials either, but I don’t have a choice. I just take my bathroom breaks and snack breaks strategically.

RE: XFL is back!!!
Hey, I'm with you there. I truly hope the focus is on the game. The politics/advertising/"awareness" nights blah blah blah...it's annoying more than anything. Football has become bloated. I hate watching for 30 minutes and only 2 minutes come off the clock because of penalties, stoppages, etc...
If they can pull this off, it could be huge. Competing only with basketball and late-season hockey for ratings. It would be over before baseball starts.
Start-ups are hard though. Creating a completely new nationwide, professional football league, with games mostly played in January and February....it will be hard to build a fan base. Better have a great TV deal. For Northern/Midwestern teams, how many people will come see an unknown entity outdoors in January? No idea what ticket prices will be either.
