I wish the championship building plan converted the Convo to a football practice facility. Then take some of the Convocation seating and bleachers to renovate Bowen so Basketball would be back on campus.

Isn't the name of the building the CONVOCATION...

Removes the weights, bring in bleachers and portable seating for convocations, etc.? 03-lmfao03-lmfao

BTW, as I have mentioned before Dr. Shelton told me that building an arena, etc. at the site of Bowen was a no go because of vehicular traffic on Oakwood.

When Bowen was constructed and utilized for basketball, it was essentially little more than a high school gym (reminded me of my h.s. gym) with the balcony seating.

Essentially its usage as a basketball arena was 'grand fathered in'; they simply added bleachers.

EMU could not, for example, go to Ypsi and say we want to demolish Bowen and build a 5K arena. It would not pass zoning. Likewise, a renovation would I assume require comparable zoning approvals.

Hint: If you propose to build a 5K arena, then the zoning folks assume that there will be corresponding vehicles to support 5,000 attendees.

Same with a church. A parish says we want to build a 1,000 seat church, the zoning folks will say you need X number of parking spaces.

And last but not least, guys, guys, guys, the EMU master plan is to get all of the sports to the west campus. Facilities, coaches, training, athletic training, etc.

The EMU athletic master plan ain't going to be shelved hoping that re-doing a bunch of things can improve basketball attendance a few hundred spectators per game.
