The XFL is coming back
It will be running in 2020. Will the new foreman be done by then? If so, yall should seriously try to get a team for Hampton Roads. Seeing your school on tv every week could also boost recruiting.

At this point, your stadium would be better for them. They are building our stadium 2/3 smaller than yours. 07-coffee3

Norfolk State has a 30,000 seat stadium. Why wouldn't you suggest the XFL set up shop there?

I thought NSU would have been a great place for the XFL the first time around. Now that ODU has football, Id have very little interest in it, but at the time I hoped Norfolk/VB would get a team and play at NSU.

Technically it's either 1/3rd smaller or 2/3rds the size of NSU's stadium. 04-cheers

Remember when we got all excited about attracting a CFL team to play in Foreman Field?

Peppridge Farm remembers.

XFL.... jeez.

RE: The XFL is coming back
If Norfolk and ODU were smart they should package a proposal together to build the stadium with Norfolk adding the additional funds to make the NEW stadium open with a projected 30-35K or even 40K capacity. There will only be 10 teams in the new League and Norfolk would be ideal with that size Stadium and for the future growth of this league. ODU could use the stadium, as well as Norfolk for other events and even a future Bowl game site. They should present a proposal to Vince McMahon for the team to lease Forman Field and the new stadium for the first 5 years after completed, but lease Forman Field till completed (if needed), if construction goes beyond 2020. I also understand it will be after the NFL fall / winter schedule of games has concluded so there would be no conflict with the NFL are with ODU's schedule.

The amount of revenue for the city would be tremendous. It would also make Norfolk a more recognizable destination City for other events and commerce It should even help Norfolk get a little spurt of growth, along with potential for more jobs. Win Win, in my opinion. I would even be OK with a delay if they need to work together to make this a show place for ODU as well as the City.

I hope they look at this option. It could be just what the doctor ordered.

The key to the above statement is "If ODU and Norfolk are smart".

This league lasted 1 year last time. Why will this time be different?

More exposure, far more outlets to be seen I'd figure.

I suggested Foreman over Dick Price because of box seats and turf. Also in winter months 15,000 people looks better in a 20K stadium vs a 30K stadium. Lastly, our AD and president of the month would probably mess it up.

Both schools are doomed! Must be a Norfolk thing!

RE: The XFL is coming back
Honestly I think Virginia Beach should spiffy up the Sportsplex and land a team there. The average attendance in XFL's one season was 23,000 BUT that was front-loaded; the numbers at the gate and on the TVs fell off a cliff as the season progressed and the curiosity factor abated.

I suspect attendance for this is not going to be that good even, since it's going to be second-tier football played in the teeth of winter and during a time when sports attendance is falling as a whole. So a smaller stadium is going to be better (and parking is much less of an issue out there).

Yeah, I'm skeptical. Maybe just because I have no interest in all the minor league football leagues that have popped up over the last 20 years. I care less about the NFL than I did years ago, I can't imagine having any interest in this. Unless a bunch of ODU guys pop up in there, which is possible.

RE: The XFL is coming back
I believe the NFL is missing out on significant talent by not having a minor league. Basically, if you graduate and don't get drafted or a free agent signing, you have nothing to do but pursue a career elsewhere because the NFL or CFL is the only way to pay the bills while playing football. One has to wonder how many late bloomers like Kurt Warners there are out there that will never get a chance.

Let's get a team in Norfolk, have them build a nice stadium, and let us use it.

I presume you're joking, but just in case: I don't think anyone, anywhere is going to build a stadium that has an XFL team as the driving force. Especially since a) the last pro football league to put a franchise here didn't last two years and b) the last incarnation of the XFL barely made it to the finish line of its first season, then promptly died.

Now had an ownership group tried to get an MLS team here, that's something I could see being a reasonable joint venture. But considering that the area hasn't had a club above the fourth tier of American soccer since 2006, I wasn't exactly holding my breath. But a new 30,000-seat stadium would have fit the sweet spot for both an MLS club and ODU football.

Yeah.

At this rate, I'd settle for 25K. We should at least be able to match JMU's facilities. If not, drop back to FCS.
