RE: 2018 Emerald Coast Classic
This seriously pisses me off. We are a top 15 all-time program about to go to our 8th-straight tournament and this is the best we can do? George Mason hasn't even been any good for 5+ years. Like always, we'll end up with a couple of absolute garbage buy games and if we're lucky, we might get to face one decent team in the tournament.

He said we were a late replacement for Louisville that year and didn't have enough time to really sell it to our supporters. I went to Maui for the first time in 2016 and I guarantee you if we ever go back I'm 100% in. The gym was less than 5 minutes from where I stayed and when someone told me that's where they played the Maui invitational I couldn't believe it.

Could you imagine the massacre X would take replacing their top scorers playing the greatest recruiting class of all time?

If traveling fans was a factor, X would not make it. That's a cheap a.. crowd. Not even many fans in Nyc for the tourney.

Could it be that the perception nationally of UC basketball isn't quite held in as high esteem as we think it is or should be.

I personally think a big run in March or two of those would help catch the eyes of the early season tournaments.. that's the only thing we haven't checked off the list in terms of perception.

If Middle Tennessee and Dayton can play in the Battle 4 Atlantis, we should be able to find some decent tournaments.

I counted at least a dozen better tournaments on that list, and a lot of them have AAC, A-10, Mountain West, WCC, and MVC teams.

Yep. Agreed and agreed. There must be something we can do to play in better tournaments.

The travel excuse that Mick uses is a garbage one considering Middle Tennessee can get in the Battle for Atlantis.

If travel or branding is not the issue, what is it then? Is there some memo out there alerting these upper tier tourneys not to invite us? Is it ESPN? Are we getting invites but they are being rejecting by someone in the athletic department or coaching staff?

I think we're looking at this from a different scope...you ever think it's about the incentives given to the participants and not about if an invite is received or not?

Walk me through this-- are you saying that certain tournaments offer incentives and our athletic department declines out of concern due to compliance concerns, well-being of the student-athletes?

Not one bit...I'm saying that every tournament offers incentives and the department accepts what they deem to be the best deal. They're essentially under the same categorization as bowl games from what I've read, only the schools have more choice that the event administrators.
