Looks Like the 10th Assistant Coach That NCAA Added Will Bite Us
The NCAA just added a 10th ass't coach and that has begun the musical chairs.

Great if someone is an ass't coach looking to move, but can be painful if a school loses a very valuable coach.

Looks like we are losing Bullough who was our DL coach.

When a school has an excellent unit you hate to lose the coach(s) of that unit.

And this article lists Bullough's salary. It certainly made it easy to poach him.

Two thoughts:

1). Those who thought that he deserved a shot at being EMU's HC should get kicked off this forum for failing drug tests, i.e., smoking that funny cigarette much to the detriment of their cognitive abilities. 03-lmfao

2). I assume Robert Morris is an absolute non-win (graveyard) for a coach. Maybe he would give up that gig for a job as an asst coach at EMU. I have no idea.

And I have no idea if there is heat on John to win or else... 3 conference wins in FOUR seasons isn't good for one's job security.

Robert Morris: 8–34 3–19 (from Wikipedia, cited above).

I agree with point number 1, and I believe he lost his job as head coach at Robert Morris. However, experience as a FCS head coach is not something to just dismiss.

Who knows. He is age 67 and might have one last go round in him.

To me the ideal defensive line coach would be an FCS/Div II/JUCO assistant on the younger side who is familiar with a 4-2-5. Yes coming here would have to be a step up salary and opportunity wise.

Here is one example although it may not fit the 4-2-5.

The 10th coach has caused a real tital wave of coaches moving around. A lot of P5 teams have taken guys form non P5, non P5 teams have added guys for FCS teams, etc.

And I think totally unnecessary. NCAA keeps adding coaching positions including those like 'quality control' positions, etc.

Does Division one need assistant coaches:players at a 1:10 ratio?

I looked at previous EMU defensive line coaches, Ken Delgado is an assistant with the Cleveland Browns (English), Casey Creehan was defensive line coach here for one year, extensive college and CFL experience was just named head coach at Lyon College on December 1, 2017, Lyon is in Arkansas, Robert Lee was Genyk's defensive line coach and was at Valpo as defensive line coach maybe up until 2012 or 2013, lost track of him after that.

Here's another younger coach though that replaced Lee:

What about EMU bounce-back Marcus Hall-Oliver?

http://usfcougars.com/coaches.aspx?rc=455&path=football

Was GA for us and is now Sioux Fall's D-Line coach. They ranked 3rd in Div II rush defense (was 39th in '16) and 9th in sacks last year. Only one year of experience, but is young and already familiar with our system.

Guys, trying to pick the next DL coach (assuming there isn't a position shift among existing assistants) is indeed like trying to guess the Powerball.

Have fun but I don't try to guess asst coaches or Powerball.

Anyone who predicted Jerry Wooten to be men's basketball assistant raise your hands... Lol.

The closest I'll come is to look at the existing staff. I don't think Neathery (Neathery coaching the DL and being DC) but he was a DE in college and a little DL coaching experience. Neathery is really, though, a LB coach and DC.

Bullough was great, but as an MSU alum, with a huge raise in hand, who can blame him. The entire Bullough family bleeds green. The players really liked him as well so he'll be missed. Best of luck to him. On the other hand, a new coach will bring new ideas for the kids to add to what they learned from Bullough......and hopefully a great attitude and breathe of fresh air.

I'm sure Neathery has plenty of contacts, and will be choosing the new guy. Looking forward to the announcement.

We may want to consider hiring a coach from Texas so he can bring us another Maxx Crosby!

As long as Neathery is leading the defense we'll be just fine. We've got enough experienced guys on the DLine that can pass the Bullough wisdom down to the new guys, and the new coach will bring new knowledge and his own twist.

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.

Hey, Neathery came to us from UTSA, so I'm sure he has contacts in TX as well. Sure wouldn't hurt to get somebody recruiting down there again.

For all the grief McCaslin took, he did get 2 productive players in Crosby and Holford in the same class. Bring McCaslin back to coach DLine! 02-13-banana
