Impressive Post Player Development
I think one of the overlooked "positive" aspects of Toledo's Men's Basketball Program during Coach K's time at the helm has been the development of the Post Players. If you look at who has played and how they have developed over their careers, I think for the most parts, they have improved significantly, which is impressive in a Mid Major league like the MAC where it is hard to recruit talented Post Players. Nathan Boothe is a perfect example of a Post Player who came in with potential and improved his game each season to the point where he is playing professionally overseas. The same with Steve Taylor. While he only played 1 year with the Rockets, his overall game improved a lot from what he did at Marquette for 3 seasons. Luke Knapke is another example. While he has played less than 2 seasons, you can see marked improvement in his overall game from his freshman year. If he continues to improve the next 2-1/2 seasons, he should turn into all MAC Post Player and possibly play professionally overseas. The jury is still out on Taylor Adway. While he has shown some improvement in his game this season, I don't think he has consistently performed up to his skill set. It will be up to Assistant Coach Jason Kalsow, who has done a great job with the Post Players, to continue to work with Adway to get the most out of his abilities.

+1 Great point. I couldn't agree more!

I was impressed with Adway's performance vs Kent State. He only played 15 minutes but displayed a couple very nifty moves to the hoop. And his tough, confident posture when KSU players were in his face drew a technical foul against Kent at a key point in the game.

I still think Adway is the wild card. At times, he's shown himself to be a very good basketball player, just not enough time. He would take minutes away from W. Jackson, but he's a better foul shooter, and scorer. W. Jackson will get exploited at the foul line like they did with S. Taylor.

I would be happy with a MAC title and a 15 seed in the Big Dance, which is the best we can hope for anyway.

They have played much better since MAC play. If they can continue to improve and get the bench help they are getting (9 guys?), they will contend. But I'm guessing they will have to go through Buffalo. It will take an almost perfect game to do so IMO, but on a neutral court; possible. Buffalo looks to be pretty talented.

I'm hoping right now coach K drilling WMU into their heads (not further down the road like I am). Watch the back door screens; got to stop that (how many times did that whack us in the past?).

Another example of a different attitude from coaches this year- WMU had one back door cut that I recall and we blew it up with a quick double team on the baseline ending in a turnover.

That's all I can remember too. That was their plan and we were the turkey (in the past).

RE: Impressive Post Player Development
Springfield's Demajeo Wiggins continues to improve for bugs. He was in consideration for MAC POW this week;

"Demajeo Wiggins, a junior forward from Toledo, played a huge role in Bowling Green’s 1-1 week. For the week, Wiggins, who shot an astonishing 81.2 percent (13-of-16) from the floor and 81.8 percent from the free throw line (9-of-11), averaged 17.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists. The junior began the week with a monster performance in a win at Miami. He went 8-for-9 from the floor, while registering 22 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high five assists. To conclude the week, Wiggins posted 13 points and 11 rebounds, and shot 5-for-7 from the field. What made the performance more impressive was the fact that he played just three minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. Wiggins came out in the second half, and posted 11 points and 10 rebounds in 15 minutes. The 6-10 big man has now posted a double-double in five-consecutive games. He’s averaging 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds on the season."

It will be interesting to see Wiggins go up against Knapke and Adway on Saturday.

While Adway may not be where he needs to be....he has most certainly improved a noticeable amount.

In 2010, Ohio was 17-14 and the 9th seed in the MAC tournament. As bad as they were, they received a 14th seed in the NCAA tournament after they won the MACC and proved they deserved it by knocking off Georgetown. The MAC representative will never be any lower than a 14 seed in the NCAA's. With 33 auto bids, it's a lock that there will be at least 10 teams weaker than whoever wins the MAC.

Exactly. I mean it’s like the bowl system in football where we’ll always have the Sun Belt champ who’s weaker than the MAC champ.

last night might have been adway's best game of his career. not huge stats but he never forced anything while staying active. 10 rebounds, good defense, and on offense he didn't have a missed shot or turnover. didn't force stuff, every time he made a move he scored, was fouled or realized he didn't have a shot and kicked it back out to an open man.
