Football
From what I've read in today's article in the Democrap paper, we'd be a fool to start a football program. Just my opinion.

That may be absolutely true. But what is also absolutely true, the way that article was written in such a slanted fashion, that is exactly what the ADG wanted you to come away with. Do you think it was just a coincidence that the article appeared in the sports page on the day that the biggest rivalry game for Little Rock was to be played in town, yet no article on the rivalry game. Pretty clear what the ADG wanted to do.

Oh, no doubt it was slanted, even though we would never be any competition for the hogs, the powers that be in LR want NO competition of any kind.

I am not sure it would be "the powers that be in LR" who might be against the idea, because if LR powers weren't behind the idea, the whole study would be a waste of time. But a certain sports editor alum of Little Rock is certainly against any idea that would bring more attention to his Alma Mater's sports programs. Why that is the way he feels is beyond my grasp, as it seems totally irrational to me. But there it is.

RE: Football
The only way it will be viable is if a number wealthy business folks in Little Rock are willing to step-up and promise to support the program. If these folks believe that football would be an economic boom and help in the growth of he city, they may be willing to do it. Further raising student fees does not appear to be a good option and Little Rock football can't make it just on individual ticket sales. The existence of significant corporate support will determine if this is even worth talking about. Obviously, Little Rock will never get professional football. If folks want football in the city, on a regular basis, UALR is the only option.

I always believed it was a "foolish" idea as well. I haven't totally changed on that, but I've moved closer to the "undecided" category. If big money folks in Little Rock get behind it it could happen. Still not sure who will attend our games. We always have around 250 folks in the Trojan Legion Club- Most are diehard fans- but most are also over 60, like me, and probably don't want to sit on metal bleachers in the cold or, even hot weather. I think you have to average 15K to stay DI, once you get there. However, most Sun Belt level teams "fudge" their numbers and I'm sure we could do that as well.
At this moment, I still have a hard time believing it will happen. But, it wouldn't shock me either.

That is a simple response and you may be right. If you are, I am sure that is what the 125K study will determine. Obviously, asking you (or me or LRTrojan) would have been a lot cheaper.

I agree, but maybe they came up with that when it still looked like the hogs were finished in LR. I believe they now believe that they will now continue to play at least one dame here.
