I think you might be somewhat correct, but the AAC teams don't play OOC schedules than confirm this to 'the experts'.

Cincy lost to Xmen and Florida but they did beat UCLA (currently 5th in PAC12)

Wichita State got beat by Oklahoma lost by 1 to ND, but they beat Baylor.

Houston played OOC cupcakes but lost to Drexel and LSU.

SMU has no good OOC wins, not to mention they lost to Northern Iowa, Western KY and TCU

Tulane got pummeled by Georgia State and curbstomped by NC and Florida State.

where's Statman? I'm bored looking at stats.

Bottom line. I dunno...if we can get ever get credit as a conference doing it like this.

Other than the 2 ranked teams (Arizona and USC) that another poster mentioned SMU beat, here are other solid P5/Big East OOC wins.

Temple beat Wisconsin, South Carolina, Auburn and Clemson.
Cincy beat UCLA as you mentioned and handed Miss State their first loss.
Wichita State beat Cal, Marquette, Baylor and Oklahoma State.
Houston beat Wake Forest, Arkansas and Providence.
UCF beat Nebraska and Alabama
Even Tulsa had a decent win at Kansas State

Our conference looks a lot better now. lol Thanks.

So. I wonder how many teams will go to the Dance. I know it's not us, but if we beat Tulsa, will we be in second place in our conference...? lol

We have an opportunity. We have to beat Cincy and Wichita State at home and finish with no more than 4 losses in the regular season to have a shot. That will be very tough to do. Our OOC schedule is killing us as usual and not winning at least one against Bama, Louisville and LSU is gonna hurt us.

You must not visit the AAC board.

Nope. There are enough mouth breathers on this board I can't imagine multiplying that by 12 on the conference board.

What you have said is several teams in our league aren’t any good, and yet the great Gregg Marshall is finding life tough in a league you insinuate isn’t any good.

Huh?

BTW, WSU was picked to finish 2nd in the AAC this year, so whatever silly idea you have about people here (like me) saying they would go undefeated is misguided.

The Bearcats edged Wichita State as the preseason favorite with 116 points to the Shockers’ 115 in the balloting of the coaches, who could not vote for their own teams. Cincinnati received seven first-place votes, while Wichita State claimed the other five.

At least 3 will be in. Possibly 4. 2 are known in UC and WSU. One more will definitely get in.

If a fourth can consistently beat the other 8, we can get a 4th. Losing Tako hurts that possibility. Maybe Memphis can step up? We’d need to beat one of UC/WSU and could lose one game to the 8 below us. Split with Houston or SMU/#3. This puts us on the bubble as #4 with an RPI of 50. Not likely we can do it, but possible.

Right now, there are 3 teams with a viable shot of the 4th AAC bid imo- SMU, HOU, MEM. One of these not named Memphis will be #3. I’m not including Temple because they fell off the rails, nor UCF with the loss of Taco. Both SMU and HOU have a better shot than we do right now, but we can catch/pass 1 of them.

Huh? SMU beat #2 at the time Arizona on a neutral court, and #14 USC by 17 points.

This year is a down year for AAC anyway you want to look at it. The worst season since it was formed.

Nah. Four teams in the top 50 this year. We haven't had that since L'ville left.

What we have are 2 boat anchors that are worse than any bottom 2 teams we've ever dealt with. Then there are the 4 top 50 teams - as good at the top as we've ever been. Then all the middle is about like it always is.

Overall, #7 conference - like always.

Now that Tacko is out, the best that the AAC can hope for is 4 bids...BUT it would literally require UH and SMU to not lose to anyone except each other, Cinci, or WSU.

Houston sits (as of after the WSU game) at 52 in the RPI and still has two vs. SMU, 2 vs. Cinci, and @WSU. They are 43 in KenPom after the WSU win.

SMU is at 57 in the RPI and 32 in Kenpom.

Last year, the teams in the 40's and higher at kenpom were the ones which began to miss the NCAA bubble.

Seems you've raised your 2-bid league expectations.

1) Find me a quote where I have said AAC is ONLY a 2 bid league.

2) I have said for some time that Cinci and WSU are locks.

3) I have also noted, in other previous threads, that the second tier (UH, SMU, UCF...) would need to separate themselves from the rest of the conference IF they wanted a bid.

4) Even in my thread you quote, I'm merely saying 4 is the BEST they can expect, not what they will. Then I point out the relatively ho-hum metrics (per selection standards) that SMU and UH possess.

IF one of SMU/UH can sweep their series and get one more win vs. WSU/Cinci AND not lose to a bottom feeder, that team could be in play for an at large.

Two will be the minimum.

SMU and Temple are most likely to contest for bids, but it depends on how they fare in conference. There is a lot of flotsam in the conference (Tulane, Memphis, ECU, USF) and those teams can't afford to lose games to those teams.

Tulsa and UConn aren't going, and UCF is at a huge disadvantage due to the injuries of Dawkins and Taylor.

Houston has a couple decent wins against mid-range P5 schools (Wake and Arky) but has loaded up on cupcakes so far and even dropped a game to Drexel.

So, unless an SMU, Temple, or Houston separate themselves from each other, don't lose to the bottom of the conference and can pick off a game vs. WSU or Cinci two bids are the floor with maybe a third getting in.

Please. Am I not worth attacking for my 2 bid off-hand comment?

It was made in the context that TubBAY would NEVER get us to the tournament in this league--'cause our horrendous OOC schedule, and inability to compete with the top AAC teams doesn't favor an at large bid.... without good recruits.

My kingdom for a good recruit! lol

RE: Wichita State is seeing what the Tigers saw
...and now SMU (who I noted earlier was walking a thin line this year because they were so short handed) is now in deep ish. Their second leading scorer (Jarrey Foster and a reserve are out for the year. SMU will have 8 scholarship players the rest of the year.

Vs. Tulane they had four guys play 34+ minutes.

I think you might be somewhat correct, but the AAC teams don't play OOC schedules than confirm this to 'the experts'.

SMU has no good OOC wins, not to mention they lost to Northern Iowa, Western KY and TCU

The eye test, number of very good players, more mediocrity in the middle of the league all tell me this is a down year for the league.
