Go watch a few of their games and then get back to me. They damn near beat UConn, that's how good they are.

I'm wondering the same thing. It's getting to the point of why waste a year. Guess she still hasn't been medically cleared. Breyenne Belerand hasn't played a lot either....wonder if she'll apply for a redshirt.

That's how I look at it. If a team not from a top conference is 30th in the RPI, meaning they would get an 8 seed from the RPI, and they're given a 12 seed, it doesn't just hurt them. It makes the 5 seed much more likely to get upset. In the 2017 Men's Tournament, Middle Tennessee got a 12 seed with a better RPI than both teams in four of the Round of 64 games.

meanwhile, in hokieburg, Kenny is 13-7, 2-5 and tied with 3 teams for 10th place in the ACC.
Kenny will get them there, but I thought it might happen a bit quicker. Only his second year. Va Tech must have been further down then I realized.
18-14 and 5-11 the year before Kenny took over.
20-14 and 4-12 last year

Yeah, I was watching that game. I think the final was UConn by 5 or 6 after some late FTs, but Texas was up going into the 4th. And they game was played in Austin.

I have a ton of respect for KB but I just don’t know if VT WBB will ever be an ACC contender. They have to compete with the likes of Duke, Florida State, Notre Dame, Louisville, Miami, UNC, who are typical elite 8 or better contenders annually plus your every now and then NCAA tourney teams in UVA, NC State, BC, Wake, and Clemson. VT WBB is just a hard sell...it’s gonna take stealing recruits from the top tier teams which is hard to do.

He has already made Va Tech more respectable. They were a pushover for the most part ever since joining the ACC. Your point is dead on as the ACC is brutal with the additions of Notre Dame and Louisville, in particular, and Syracuse has improved their program significantly making the final game a couple of years ago in fact. Like most times, it will take Kenny at least 2 years and most likely 3 recruiting classes to be able to get near .500 in the ACC, if then. He signed a 5* who is a freshman this season, a 4* in this current 2018 signing class and already has 2 4* commits in the upcoming 2019 class. He will be able to upgrade the talent significantly and that's needed just to compete with the middle-of-the-pack programs in the ACC.

When VT was after Kenny and I REALLY didn't want him to go, i said several times the place was a SINK, and I meant it. They were AWFUL. The only things that kept them out of the basement of the ACC were Boston College and Clemson, that's how awful. Now I do have faith that Kenny can get them into the middle of the conference and build a solid program, but to the top? Probably not. Not as long as Notre Dame and Louisville are in the way. Look at my sig line for conventional wisdom. It's truer than you realize. And frequently a coach's second year with a program is a little rougher than the first because most of the legacy players have departed. However he didn't lose too many and has picked up a few. I think he'll do all right and build a program players will want to come to. It will end up being better than UVA because he's a better coach than Joanne Boyle.

Very true. Vivian Stringer is approaching the 1,000-win mark. Her first 2 years at Rutgers? 24-32 with losing records each season. It was Year 3 when her Scarlet Knights posted 22 wins and made the Sweet 16 of the NCAAT. Her first 2 years at Iowa before that in the early 80's was better record-wise, but it was Year 3 before her Hawkeyes made the NCAAT. This is far more the norm.
Boyle doesn't impress me at all, though they are having a good season this year. Her future may get a boost if ESPN's top junior in the nation, Samantha Brunelle, chooses UVa over her other 8 finalists, which includes UConn.

Agreed there, if they don’t get Brunelle, bet she gets the can.

I don't know if y'all noticed, but Kenny got the youngest Mabrey sister, Dara, after the older two had gone to Notre Dame. That's quite the recruiting coup! And the way Geno is talking about his bench lately, I wouldn't be surprised to see more transfers. Andra Espinoza-Hunter has already left, and he's gone full Trump on her, saying "She's not on the team because I didn't want her on the team," while she's saying she left for "personal reasons". I think it's pretty ugly of him to talk like that. Most coaches, including Coach O, just don't talk about players who leave or even are kicked off the team. Geno is also talking very negatively about his bench players, which he didn't used to. What's up with that? Players are not going to go there if they think they might be talked about that way.
