RE: Temple's On Campus Stadium Proposal
There are several things to note about the stadium. If this was just about leaving the Linc, Temple would have a weak argument and the motivation would not be that strong. We would simply negotiate a better lease with the Eagles.
The truth is that the Linc is not an ideal stadium for college football. It's too large and too far from campus. Temple averages about 26k fans per year and the Linc holds 70k. This leads to a lackluster game atmosphere. From waiting for a train to riding the train to the stadium, it's about a 45 minuete trip from campus.
Temple's campus could use the development and the economic boost that a stadium would bring to the campus. It also would bring alumni back to campus. This helps to make Temple seem less like a commuter campus.
From what I can tell, students make up about 30% of our crowd at the Linc. This could increase to 60% with a campus stadium.
Tailgating will continue, location won't stop it. Parking will be tighter but most students will now walk to the stadium.
The only thing that I like about the Linc are the big screens. Hopefully Temple will have some.
Temple currently gets no parking or concessions from the Eagles. Financially in as little as 5 years after the stadium opens, Temple should go from a situation where they would lose $5 mil per year to making $5 mil per year off of tix, parking and concessions.
Better to own than rent ..

(UCF and USF) the big issue is FSU and Miami do not want to put either on even status. FSU being far from the recruiting hot spots would be hurt the most IMHO.

The ACC does fine with TV eyeballs in Florida...Cincy, CT and Philly would probably give more bang for the buck.

Tex is right. Take a look at a map of the ACC. There is a large gap between NY, western PA, Boston and Virginia. Smack in the middle of that gap is Temple and Philadelphia. Philly is the 4th largest TV market in the country. It is way bigger than Tampa and Orlando combined. So I’m sure the power brokers in the ACC can see that. However, I’m way more pumped about a new on campus stadium than expansion possibilities. Go Owls!

Yea- wrong. Philadelphia metro market is 6M people; the Orlando/Tampa metro areas combined are 5.8M.

Then there’s the fact that FL has one of the highest population growth rate in the country, whereas Pennsylvania is actually losing people per year

It's still more than both combined. It's even higher if you look at CSA instead of MSA. Can't even find Tampa's CSA.

It looks a little like Nippert. Flattery is the best compliment. I hope it goes through. We need nice venues in the conference.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

A new football stadium/men's basketball head coach and an upgrade in men's lacrosse would indeed make Temple a very attractive ACC candidate. And Temple has nearly 30,000 undergrads. That's what the ACC needs, a large public school in the mid-Atlantic region with an administration that supports athletics.

The ACC would take Nova over Temple for the Philly market any day. No offense to Temple but you would be black balled by the Southern Snobbery trio from the Tobacco Triangle - NC, Duke, and WF. ND would also vote no and Cuse, VT, BC, and Pitt wouldn't vote at all saying we left you behind one time before. The ACC would give Nova time to move the FB team up to D-1A too if they wanted them for all sports and Nova wouldn't think twice about moving their program up for that golden ticket to the money world of the P5's. 07-coffee3

The ACC needs a team that can bring the NYC market and Temple could do that.

Syracuse claims the NYC market so that territory is already covered by the ACC. 04-cheers
