Interesting development. Could see some weaker P5 players transfer into G5 ranks. Bigger problem, could see the best G5 move up. Sounds like another win win for the P5. Deck isn’t stacked in the favor as it is.

Open transfer sounds like a potential problem. You’d think NCAA would allow one time. But it is the NCAA

Don't like it at all. P5 schools will be recruiting the best G5 players to join their teams once they have proven themselves.

Will definitely work against us. They'll recruit our best players away. We will get their unproven bench players.

Heard Kermit talking about it yesterday on Sirius. He made great points. Hurt G5’s big big time if it happens. Open season.

this was a gimme.....

many of us saw this coming during the first phase of realignment.....

watch what happens with the next phase of realignment once the tv contracts begin to expire....

flagship schools band together and become the next nfl while the rest redistrict based on what's leftover.....

Close. The P5 will get the best of the G5. The G5 will get the P5 4-star bust's. My guess is the typical "good" bench player playing behind an All American at Alabama are more likley to go to Texas Tech or N Carolina than to Tulane or NIU. This will be bad for the G5. My question is--how does this even stand a chance of passing? Why would FCS and non-football D1 schools vote for it? Hell--why would Texas Tech vote for it---as Bama probably wont be stealing from UAB---as they are more likely to steal from Texas Tech or Vanderbilt.

G5 about to become the P5 "Developmental League".

Oh sweet so the star rb at vandy is good so he'll go to Ohio state next year or the qb at ucla doesn't like it so he goes to USC haha. This could be fun. UK might have to recruit an all new team every year in basketball.

See Rice basketball...

Like we don’t already have enough guys willing to transfer to a better league to “prove themselves”.

Kermit mentioned he had not heard of 1 single football or basketball coach that was in favor of this. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

UK already recruits a brand new team every season....This is a disaster for teams like us, Essentially free agents will be running rampant....We have not a lost a good player to a power conf. team in a long time, I am afraid that is going to change sooner rather than later....I understand that coaches can come and go as they please but they are adults, these kids do not always make the best decision for them and we will see so many bad decisions made left and right if this rule passes..Surely they will put some restrictions or grades that have to met before players can just go all over the place...In football Div. IAA will be hurt way more than us by this rule, IAA will become even lower class on field...

Clear overreaction to the question "if coaches can switch schools without losing a year, why shouldn't players?" There's got to be a better way.

Besides they still have to meet the standards of the school academically anyway.

If true, it's clear that the NCAA is turning G5 into a minor league system for P5. (Sarcasm Alert) Maybe each G5 school can align with a P5 school to send players back and forth during the season- just like in MLB. Only hurdle is that pesky school work.

I think it's not only coaches moving freely, but coaches setting unfair transfer restrictions on where a player can go, many times just out of spite. If a kid wants to transfer (with or without sitting out a year), then no coach should be able to tell him where he is and isn't allowed to go (and receive financial aid). The players are people, not possessions. Of course the coaches oppose this. It removes power from a group of people who thrive for absolute control.

I don't like the free transfer rule, but coaches are complete hypocrites when it comes to transfer restrictions. Coaches claim they have a kid's best interest at heart.... until he the kid decides to transfer. Then the coaches have their own agenda to protect. It's BS either way.

Head coaches at least normally have to pay a buyout.
