Correct. The link and the header are Fake News.

Members of Congress are also considered essential and receive their pay. Their staff are not and do not.

Quote:There are a couple of big myths that make military folks think that they shouldn’t be worried about their pay during a government shutdown. Please understand that military pay absolutely can be impacted during a government shutdown.

Myth 1: My contract guarantees that I’ll be paid.

Nope. In one of the rare pieces of information that is know, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) states, "In case of a potential government shutdown, the Department of Defense has no legal authority to pay any personnel - military or civilian - for the days during which the government is shut down."

In most past shutdowns, the shutdown was short, and occurred between pay periods, so pay wasn’t impacted. But just because that is how it has happened in the past doesn't mean that is how it will happen in the future.

Myth 2: They passed a bill guaranteeing military pay.

Yes, they did, for the shutdown that occurred in 2013. That bill only applied to that fiscal year, and does not apply to any future shutdowns.

There is always the possibility that a similar bill would be passed for any future shutdowns, but I wouldn’t count on it.

So then the lawmakers and the President need to stop pointing fingers and figure it out. if they can not avoid a shutdown then at least make sure all essential personnel that are required to work get the pay they earn.

Then tell your side to stop siding with criminals and vote for the president's plan. If they don't then be prepared to explain to over a million men and women in the armed services and many more veterans why your side chose supporting criminals over supporting the military.

We could let the DACA kids join the military to earn their citizenship. That way they would serve for this country under our flag, and not under any other flags.

Personally if a shutdown were to occur, I think Congress, not our military should feel the pinch. Meaning for however long it takes that's deducted from their next check. Folks in the military do not make a whole hell of a lot of money, so holding their pay is unfair and not their fault. Congress is the only job where they determine their raises and never get penalized except in election years.

It must suck to control everything, yet you still suck at what you do. Blaming the Democrats because you're impotent. Sad.

See Washington DC from Jan 2009 until Jan 2011. All they got accomplished was a record # of Republicans elected across the country. 03-lmfao

Regardless, the R's are in charge. If the government shuts down, it's their fault and will be seen as such by the voters.

Takes 60 votes. Republicans have only 51. So No They won't be seen as the problem.

Trump chose to end DACA. If he has not done that, we wouldn't even be having this discussion right now.

Thanks Trump

As I said it takes two to tango and both sides could pass a measure to ensure payment to the military.

DACA is an executive order, not law. He is fully within his right to end it. Are you even aware what the "DA" in DACA stands for? It's DEFERRED ACTION, meaning action will be taken sometime in the future... Guess what, it's the future and the president is legally ending an EO signed by the previous president. Do you know why DACA was an EO and not law? Because not even the libs in congress wanted to have a vote on something like that leading up to the 2016 elections.

Personally I hope the dems follow through with their govt shutdown bull****. It will be a massive winner for the Republicans when they play the tapes of all the dems bashing the GOP for the shutdown over Obamacare and then flipping to support a shutdown over DACA. DACA isn't a budget issue, it should never be part of the budget conversation. Republicans hold the high ground on this and can drive dems into the ground in the election over them shutting down the govt over DACA instead of doing their jobs on the budget.

Dems still don't realize they are overplaying their hand severely on immigration. They're drawing against a made hand. All the Republicans have to do is not blink.
