RE: Week 3 of conference play
Based in this week's performance, GCU's Alessandro Lever "should" get WAC player of the week. He averaged 26 ppg and 9 rpg in the Lopes two wins. But it's clear who is the best player in the WAC. :)

Fox Sports Arizona feed of the Aggie Vision broadcast was perfect. I'm not sure why their was a delay in the ESPN 3 feed.

GCU had a tougher test than they thought. Definitely not the 40 point blowout win that UVU had. But, taking the 17 point win and running with it.

NMSU is still the one to beat. Aggies snagged a great win against against a quality team. Their shooters were on fire.

Due to injuries and transfers the Roos play small ball now. Totally different team.

Attendance at NMSU is looking pretty good.

We had 5,000+ vs Seattle and 6,000+ vs Utah Valley. I see attendance continuing to improve over the next six games.

NMSU will have 10,000+ for sure vs GCU next month.

There is no telling how long we can keep Coach Jans but the longer he stays at NMSU, I think his coaching intensity and the level of play his teams will be producing will slowly draw back in the Aggie fan support. If Jans can get 6-8K a game, the PAC will be a WAC coach's nightmare.

NMSU has been very fortunate to upgrade the head coach with every forced coaching change... Menzies to Weir to Jans. NMSU hasn't missed a beat and still remains the WAC kingpin. All roads lead through NMSU.

We are in better hands with Jans than our last two coaches. Although I think Weir will come into his own and have a good coaching career, but Jans is just a different animal. He should be the clear front runner for COY.

Agreed. Jans exceeded every expectation. The only way he doesn’t get it is if UVU or GCU win the tournament. In one of those instances, it’s be a coach taking his team to the big dance for the first time. That might be more impressive than Jans winning with the highest skilled and most talented players, many of whom he inherited. All that said, I don’t see the Aggies losing more than a game or two max the rest of the season. I think Jans brings a lot to the WAC!

The WAC tournament results are not a factor. The All-WAC teams, WAC POTY, WAC COTY, WAC FOTY, etc. etc. are announced the Tuesday prior to the WAC tournament.

NMSU should have COY and POY easily. Barnes getting COY was a joke last year.

The Traitor should have been COTY last season. He was a first year coach who did the following... Revamped a team who lost an NBA 1st round player (Pascal Siakam), changed its style of play, and produced 25 wins (win total at the time of COTY voting). He produced a 20 game winning streak with a win over a P5 program on the road. He finished 2nd in the WAC; like CSUB did the year prior... and yet it was good enough for Barnes to be awarded his first WAC COTY award. And, Weir had NMSU ranked first in 11 of 21 statistical team categories which the WAC tracks (during WAC play); better than any other team.

If NMSU wins the WAC regular season, Coach Jans better win the WAC COTY this season! Lofton better win WAC POTY! And, the WAC All-Defensive team better have at least one Aggie on it.

Thanks for the explanation/clarification Pete!

If GCU fans aren't allowed to belly-ache about POY last year, Aggie fans need to let the COY thing go. Both were deserving, but only one wins it. Way better than taking the lame way out and naming co-whatever award winners.

If Jans goes 14-0 there is no way in hell Pope wins COY.

I'd love to see a WAC school make the sweet 16 (preferably GCU of course), but it ain't happening until teams start consistently recruiting 3 & 4 star players.

Aggie roster has consistently had 3-4 star players:

4 star - AJ Harris
3 star - Sidy N'Dir
3 star - Johnny McCants

Last year:

4 star - Jermaine Haley
3 star - Braxton Huggins
3 star - Tanveer Bhullar
3 star - Ian Baker

I know those are just rankings but that's the metric you referenced. Also, NMSU has already taken down a top 10 team--a sweet 16 is definitely possible this year.

The fate of Chicago St and UMKC staying in the WAC probably depends on it. Since mid December, it has been obvious NMSU is head and shoulders above the rest of the wac and this is probably their best team since Siakam left

I'd love to see NMSU make a tournament run. Actually I'd love to see any WAC team make a tournament run. Just read an article taking about UMKC basketball which mentions that they only drew hundreds to a recent home game. They have even cut their cheerleaders out to save money. Hoping they can figure things out there, but I'm beginning to wonder if both UMKC and Chicago State are nearing the end of their division 1 stay. Perhaps moving back to the Summit would help the kangaroos out financially.

Well what is odd is how UMKC had dropped so much the past two years. They went from being middle of the pack to bottom of the WAC very quickly. Was it because their best scorer last year got ejected from the team? This is a very surprising turn of events. As for CSU, I was hoping they could do better in the ooc games, they were close to winning some....
