Six of the fts came in the last 38 seconds when UAB was trying to get back in the game. Another 5 came off OHMER getting fouled on a 3 point shot and UAB's bench running their mouth. Like they did for most of this game.
So that's 11 fts out of 29 so that makes it 18-3. If this Western team had played any defense for most of the second half...which they didn't. It might have been closer.
Sometimes you get the calls and sometimes you don't but in the end it was UAB's shooting that did them in.
33 minutes of game time. 5 WKU fouls. Only two in the first half. Never mind the free throw discrepancy, that is obvious screwjob.
I know Western fans are going to take up for their referee buddies, but don't be as blind as they were.
So tell me did the referees screw
Chattanooga when UAB shot 24 to 6
Memphis when UAB shot 21-10
Southern Miss when UAB shot 20 to 2
Again 11 fts came off UAB fouling on purpose and fouling on a 3 point shot plus a T
For most of the 2nd half Western wasn't close enough to a UAB player to foul them...
Were there some miss calls. Most likely.

20 to 15 fouls
19 to 14 fouls
17 to 5 fouls (USM attempted 34 threes. Twice as many as UAB)
You're comparing games where the other teams were basically playing from way behind by large amounts throughout the game as opposed to a close game coming down to the wire:
22 to 7 fouls
Bryant took 15 two point shots and never got to the line once. Lee took 7 two point shots and never got to the line once. Cokley took 17 two point shots and shot 3 whole free throws
Our three starting guards had 9 fouls. Your three starting guards had zero fouls.
Congrats on the win regardless

That’s beyond ridiculous.
You get the calls at home. See yalls foul shots vs ours.
But seriously, I listened at home and it was wild how many fouls were going our way. Obviously not upset with the outcome but our comeback was sparked due to UAB foul trouble for sure. Had I been watching I might have better input.

RE: WKU vs UAB: Who wins this one
We recruited Bryant hard Stansbury said yesterday before the game, he is a good player but its probably a trade off for us getting Hollingsworth to pick us over UAB...I wouldn't trade Hollingsworth for anyone.....As far as game last night UAB ran out of gas at the end....Fouls or no fouls your offense sputtered last 5 minutes mostly due to Coleby and Justin playing some great defense on your bigs.......And Thompson laying an elbow? Come on in slow motion you can clearly see your guy was doing some major acting on that play, that play did not lose you the game...What lost was your offense not doing anything last 5 min. of game......UAB is good no doubt but its not like we played great last night, went 3-15 from three...FOr whatever reason we have not shot the ball as well at home vs. the road so be careful what UAB fans wish for at your place...Not saying we will win but it seems like we are a better road team than home team this season....

Bryant was bleeding. His lip was busted. You're right, one play does not lose the game. But, to call that major acting is a stretch. Was the blood an act? UAB did not play their best game either. Don't know what will happen in Birmingham but I hope you don't bring Mike Stuart with you.

BUT we do have quick, athletic guards that are hard to defend without fouling. And we do have a stated strategy of driving to get fouls. We draw more fouls than we commit. We're good at it. That's been the case for most games this season.
Don't be a homer. This was clearly and unabashedly one sided and incompetent officiating.
Do you really think your team committed less than a third of the fouls we did and derseved ten times as many free throws?
Oh you can nit pick about this call or that one. And you're going to get more calls at home, that's true for us, that's true for you. BUT I'll tell you... I can clearly remember several plays tonight where the WKU player was bumped or hacked and it WASN'T called. Again we have a dedicated strategy of getting inside and drawing fouls and we're good at it. Give us some credit.
Like I said above, you guys are definitely good at it and deserve credit for it. What pisses me off is the lack of fouls on WKU. 3 fouls in a 40 minute college basketball game. Give me a break.
How many of the fouls were intentional at the end of the game. 4-5?
I do believe we got the edge in homie calls but not to the degree that some UAB fans think. As stated we are good at drawing fouls from other teams due to our quickness. On the other hand due to our thin early season roster we became adept at not fouling because we could not afford to. Many teams come at us to try and disrupt our offense and it doesn't always turn out to their advantage. We are not an easy team to defend.
As I said we may have gotten the homie calls just not to the degree that many fans think. The refs were letting them play and many fouls were not called for both teams. We play you guys near the end of the season and it will be interesting to see how the refs call that one.

It was just a basketball act. Yes it coulda went either way but it was malicious or anything, just a basketball act.. Sitting watching the replay and listening to the refs they were having a hard time judging it because the replay wasn’t very clear (thanks to our 1995cameras)

I know Stuart has refered in FInal FOurs before, also Gary Maxwell has too...We did not have the normal refs that look like they just graduated high school last night...We had at least 2 of the best refs in the nation last night...

UAB averages less fouls per game than WKU. We got pretty hosed this game, but it is what it is.

We got hosed at Wisconsin. These things tend to even out.
20 (WKU) to 14 (WIS) fouls with WKU@Wisconsin
vs
22 to 7 fouls with UAB@WKU.
As I said, we got pretty hosed

Remember, 4-5 were intentional near the end. Skews the proportion more than reality. Still disproportionate but not as it bad as it appears

RE: WKU vs UAB: Who wins this one
In all fairness, WKU has not fouled much all year due to only 7 players being available.
Stansbury said: We draw a lot of fouls because we pound it inside and drive the lane
In fact, UAB doubled the ball inside most of the game. This creates contact.
UAB didn’t draw a lot of fouls throughout the game because WKU left them wide open on many shots and killed us with 3s. Literally no one within 5-7 ft.
Were there some calls that went for WKU, sure just like the times we’ve gotten hosed in B’Ham (5 second call in CUSA tournament) on critical last possession.
Great WKU-UAB battle, no Mars bar this time!

RE: WKU vs UAB: Who wins this one
Fouls were one sided, but that’s expected on the road. We still had a lead fairly late in the game though, and lost it. Good game WKU. Hopefully we return the favor later in the year.

He probably bit his own lip on purpose to enhance the fake job he was putting on. Lol. Just kidding. Looked like a minor glancing blow from my seat. I thought it was an act to try and draw a foul when it happened. Looked like very minor contact at the time.

I watched it on TV. To be honest, every angle of the play looked different. Some angles looked really bad, others looked like very little happened. Hadn't thought about bite your own lip theory. I like that one, though. Good one.
