Actually, I asked a question.

What do you think Tubby has done for Martin?

It appears that Martin goes iso whenever he wants and has a green light for shooting.

What do you think Tubby has done to make that better?

So the only thing a coach does is teach plays...

Is that what you are trying to get at...Is it possible during their individual working sessions during the offseason he showed him somethings he needed to do to improve his game...JUST MAYBE that is why he is not as Left hand dominant right now. I am sure work ethic has a lot to do with it as well

So, why have we not seen the same improvement with Jimario Rivers?

And yes, I am asking directly about player improvement.

As a famous Canadian in reference to a masked strength and training coach once said...

He helped them get a year older.

Who knows I aint there...And neither are you

What about Parks...Or is that just getting acclimated to D1

I don't remember...but I don't think Parks had a lot of D1 offers.

All I know is Martin looks like a baller now and has been better than I ever could have envisioned when he got here. I have no clue how much credit goes to the coach and how much goes to the player. JM is a hard worker so you can attribute a lot of his success to that. However, Tubby has put him in the position to lead and J has responded well. With the previous coach I doubt he would have had the opportunity to be the "go to" guy.

It's amazing what can happen if you involve your big man in the offense. In many cases, his whole demeanor changes and it impacts how hard he plays on both sides of the court. I'm pretty sure this is the case with Mike. I'm glad he has responded well to the extra responsibility.

New Mexico changed coaches and the new one (Paul Weir) gave him his release.

It’s one thing to involve your big man and another for him to succeed. Admittedly, I was most disappointed in his play earlier this season. I was hoping for a decent big man, something we desperately needed. He’s really stepped up. Really outstanding play, pick and rolls, rebounds, etc. It opens the entire court when you have an inside game.

Really impressed!.

Also, being able to hit that little 8 footer from the soft spot in the middle of the zone makes our half court offense work so much better because the have to leave someone open to collapse on him.

Don’t want to come off negative on Parks. His play has improved so much in 2-3 weeks. But we have not played a team with a strong inside presence other than Cincy and the result wasn’t good. I think it’s a combination of him improving and getting his confidence up and the competition. Tulsa had like a free pass to the basket defense. No inside D at all.

I’m not saying he’s the next Shaq (O’Neal), but he’s playing at a pretty decent level. Sure, he’s going to have some tough matchups, but he’s really added an inside option for us. We had very limited big man competition for most of our early games and he did very little. Seemed more of a liability and Davenport had to be our big man. He’s really surprised me...

I agree with that statement. Some went a little overboard last night on social media comparing him to the incomparable Omar Sneed. Several called him out on that comparison lol.

All of our jucos SHOULD be a shell of what they are going to be next year. Typically jucos show the greatest improvement of any players after they have one year of D1 experience under their belt.

I think that is an urban legend, much like Cal's "the greatest improvement is between frosh and sophomores years" stuff.

JUCO's productivity and performance is generally just based on system acclimation and playing time.

Geron, for example, had a much more productive 1st year.

Geron's 1st year: 10.4 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.5 apg. 44% fg 35% 3pt
2nd year: 8.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.5 apg 41% fg, 29.8 3pt

Niem Stevenson for Texas Tech went for 8.6 and 3.9 rpg while shooting 48% and 37.5% from 3pt. This year he's 7.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg 41% fg and 35%3pt.

And even those who improve, it's more incremental than giant. Trahson went from 9.1 ppg to 10.0 ppg and Woodson went from 7.9 to 9.6, which is nice but not like he's going from 6.3 to 11.3.

Rivers was 6.4 and 3.5 last year shooting 59% and this year he's playing a couple more minutes and going for 8.1 and 4.1 while shooting 53%. An improvement, but not a quantum leap.

I wouldn't expect Rhodes to be back next year. I think Davenport has sorta peaked this year while Parks is on the upswing. Thornton seems to be a man without a position and might be challenged by Enoh and Nickel (assuming neither transfer) for PT next year.
