That's now three posters who prefer their school lose rather than win with the wrong coach.
Oh it’s more than three...
I'm not one of them.
Wins that look like losses are still wins.
Good for these players.
Tubby should thank them on a daily basis if not twice a day.
It's them, not him.
Go Tigers!!!
Imagine if Pastner had had players like that -- self taught, self motivated -- wow!
He did.
They were just 4 and 5 stars.
I mean what do you think Tubby or Pastner has done to improve Jeremiah Martin that minutes and volume didn't do?

Actually, I asked a question.
What do you think Tubby has done for Martin?
It appears that Martin goes iso whenever he wants and has a green light for shooting.
What do you think Tubby has done to make that better?

So the only thing a coach does is teach plays...
Is that what you are trying to get at...Is it possible during their individual working sessions during the offseason he showed him somethings he needed to do to improve his game...JUST MAYBE that is why he is not as Left hand dominant right now. I am sure work ethic has a lot to do with it as well

Jeremiah got better without any instructions. Imagine what he could do if he had a real coach? He might challenge Trae Young for player of the year.

Martin has been able to drive the lane for several years (check some of my posts from one or two years ago bemoaning the fact that he always waited till the last couple of minutes to do so.) So, that part did not come from Tubby. Confidence (or whatever you want to call it) to do so possibly did.
Now, shooting the three ball was not one of his strengths. He made 6 his freshman year and 24 all of last year as the starting point guard, but he's on track to double that before the conference tournament this year, and his percentage is up. I don't think the extra 3 minutes a game this year at the same position can account for that. He's more the go-to guy this year, but his supporting cast is only averaging 2.5 points less per player this year than last year's crew. It's not like the other four from last year's group did a great deal more scoring than this year's group does. We average 3 points a game less this year than last.
Bottom line, he's a good player who had fairly good coaching in high school but is getting much better coaching now, and he's turned into one of the best players in the conference. If you think he would've done that under Pastner, I'll respect your right to hold that opinion, but that's it.

So, why have we not seen the same improvement with Jimario Rivers?
And yes, I am asking directly about player improvement.
As a famous Canadian in reference to a masked strength and training coach once said...
He helped them get a year older.

Then why didn't he come out game 1 doing what he doing now?
I am saying with this volume, the green light to iso, this surrounding team, and this situation has helped him become the incredible player that he is now.
I think he would have been close to this player LAST year under a real player developer.
And I think he would be exactly the player he is today under ANY coach given the same circumstances.
If you tell me that Tubby helped him become a great player by not putting strong players around him then I might agree with your assessment.

He ain't touching Trae Young.
That's silly.
And if you think he is limited to direction from this staff as far as his development goes then you are being shortsighted.
Checks gallilee's post for clues in that area.
I remember when Pastner had to land a point guard after getting whiffed on a few potentials and many talked about how over looked Martin was and his potential.
Fortunately for Memphis, Pastner signed him on.
A lot of people thought Martin would be good back then and they were right.
That was three years ago.
Thanks Tubby.

I agree with you 110% about Martin.
Random ? Does anyone know if Jay Brenner (@_bballjones) is a member of the media or just a fan. Wrote an article about Tubby and the program, worth a read, esp if you'd like to see this from rose colored glasses. He def is the leader of the Tubby train. He just doesn't get that you need talent to win games. If the goal is to compete for a national championship then you need at least 4* players . . . name the last national champion who didn't have at least a 4* on their roster, hell name a national runner up with zero 4 or 5* guys . . . you NEED them to win.

RE: People Get Ready
The team is doing as well as can be expected and eking out those wins against bad teams were so crucial in a non Kenpom kind of way. Winning is still the most important thing. There might only be a tiny difference between winning and losing with Kenpom, but there is a huge difference when you look at how the players gained confidence and most importantly, the wins eliminated the possibility of them thinking that they weren't good and packing it in.
My evaluation of Tubby remains the same. Nothing before the last 10 games of the season counts (anything before that is a bonus), our team is going to take longer than other teams to come together and has a higher ceiling for improvement than 99% of the other D1 teams out there. By finishing in the top 100 of the RPI, we won't be an NIT team, but we have to be playing like an NIT team the last 10 games of the season. If I had to break it down, I would say that the optimistic view was to be at around 125 before the last 10 games of the season and play the last 10 games at around the 70-80 level. Right now we are on the cusp, which is great.
End the season in the top 100 of the RPI and sign a top 30 class for 2018 and there is hope for Tubby.

And Duke lost earlier this year to Boston College. Last I checked Auburn is 16-1 .... I hope Memphis wins every game. But trying to glorify wins over teams that aren’t good...Beat Cincy, Wichita State, Louisville, LSU, Alabama and then talk it up..All better teams then Tulane and Tulsa and Temple...The AAC isn’t some juggernaut basketball league. I’d take SMU and UCF as wins being decent wins. The rest of the league is crap. So yeah. I’m glad they beat these crap teams because it’s better then the alternative.
Wait. Is auburn really 16-1?
Sitting atop the SEC and ranked #22 currently
16-1 and only ranked 22 their ooc schedule must have been worse than ours
