The Trump Economy
Booming to the point where employers are hiring people with no experience and no HS diploma, disabilities, prolonged bouts of joblessness, and convicts are getting jobs before they are even released from jail.
African-American unemployment is at 6.8% -- an all-time low.
MAGA!
Quote:As Labor Pool Shrinks, Prison Time Is Less of a Hiring Hurdle
A rapidly tightening labor market is forcing companies across the country to consider workers they once would have turned away. That is providing opportunities to people who have long faced barriers to employment, such as criminal records, disabilities or prolonged bouts of joblessness.
In Dane County, Wis., where the unemployment rate was just 2 percent in November, demand for workers has grown so intense that manufacturers are taking their recruiting a step further: hiring inmates at full wages to work in factories even while they serve their prison sentences.
The American economy hasn’t experienced this kind of fierce competition for workers since the late 1990s and early 2000s, the last time the unemployment rate — currently 4.1 percent — was this low.
As employers dip deeper into the pool of available labor, workers are coming off the economy’s sidelines. The participation rate for what economists call prime-age workers — those ages 25 to 54 — hit a seven-year high in December. Employment gains have been especially strong for groups that often face discrimination — unemployment for African-Americans fell to 6.8 percent in November, the lowest rate on record.
“We’ve seen an extreme escalation in the past 12 months,” Ms. Glaser said. “If someone applies for a job and you don’t get to them within 24 hours, that person will already have taken another job.”

Just wait until Q2 whenever everyone's check goes up 10%.
The dems are in trouble.

Bank on this. If the economy is booming at the end of Trump's "reign of terror"? He will win in a landslide despite his silly twittering and incurable case of hoof and mouth disease. To quote James Carville during the Clinton campaign....."Its the economy..Stupid."

Wait until the tax cut starts putting money back into pockets of consumers. It is going to very interesting to watch what happens.

Nailed it, except there's a word for "unhinged left-liberals".
Alt-leftists.

Are wages going to go up to counteract the cut services and cost increase ? Time will tell.

Read the article. A ex-con had a job paying $14/hr before he was even released, and is about to take a salaried, career position.
Stop worrying about how many government "services" you can accrue, and just get your foot in the door somewhere.

Unless standard economic theory suddenly changes in regard to competition for good workers?...Yes. The largest private employer in the world just announced it was raising wages for that exact reason anticipating competition for workers after this tax cut.

That's part of the story of America. F. Scott Fitzgerald, who was a pampered rich waste, famously said that there are no second acts in American history. What a lack of understanding about this country.
This country was built on second acts; people arriving from other countries and making a new life; native born sons and daughters encountering failures before finding that contribution to society that makes them rich. And it's also included people who committed pretty serious crimes, only to contribute later in life. Think O Henry or Mark Wahlberg. Others who became embedded in American history were bootleggers and money launderers.
And how many second acts has Donald Trump had?

They also said they would get bonuses. How did that turn out.?

Quote:The tight job market hasn’t yet translated into strong wage growth for American workers. But there are tentative signs that, too, could be changing — particularly for lower-paid workers who were largely left out of the early stages of the economic recovery. Walmart on Thursday said it would raise pay for entry-level workers beginning in February; its rival Target announced a similar move last fall.d
I don’t use services but I am saying for those that need them and are going to lose them. My point was iare these jobs going keep in line with the cost of living? The same thing many here said every time there was a jobs report from the Obama admin.

There is a big difference between want and need. A majority of the people getting these benefits don't need them, they want them.

RE: The Trump Economy
LOL, so the best argument resident alt-leftists could come up with to combat Trump's roaring economy is that not everyone is getting all the free goodies they should?
The same day mach became a budget hawk and made a thread criticizing the debt?
Excellent.

I wonder how many folks will scream about their take home pay being reduced....not realizing some of their deductions kicked in again after max'ing out late last year. This won't hit lower income folks but some middle-upper incomers will whine before realizing the truth. The media will likely jump on it and eventually another false narrative will fizzle.
