If you're talking about Dustin, I do agree with that. I remember back in the day when it wasn't expected and he took his shirt off which surprised and riled up the entire crowd. It was awesome. When it started happening every game, the effect wore off, or at lest it did to me

This, to me, seems obvious.

But perhaps it is not.

In addition, make the cheap beer free with the option to buy craft beer. Make the donation level higher to get in to make up for it if need be but I cannot imagine they would be losing that much money when the markups are so high everywhere else. I doubt that will ever happen again but it's still fun to dream.

BBR started out that way. To many complaints about people getting hammered in the BBR and acting like fools so admin cut it out.

Cheerleaders should have had rally towels with them when they went on court. So obvious it's painful. No follow up on great cell phone light idea, again, painful to see how little creativity and imagination goes into these promotions.

Dr. C, Do you guys need some free help?? Why not run ideas past a select few posters before implementing?

As long as the fans continue to cut their ODAF checks, it seems the administration would rather the fans sit quietly and take in the game and the students not to show up than risk anyone getting too rowdy and potentially offending someone else (see the Monarch Maniacs as Exhibit A).

Problem is that they don't seem to be maintaining the number of fans. Basketball attendance has been tanking for several season now, season tix have as well, and the lack of student engagement will eventually show its ugly head down the road. It seems like they are happy just managing the decline and milking the high end donors for all they are worth.

1 Billion Percent correct here. They put on the big screen let's try something new and get pretty good traction. Don't even mention it Saturday night. Pathetic. Horrible attention to detail. I swear . . . why not get a focus group together of some of the folks on this board and students as well? There are lots of ideas. What is the admin afraid to hear? The truth? They need to hear these ideas. There's lots of folks who would give their time and voice for free and may have some great ideas that are executable and don't cost he program an arm and a leg. It seems so obvious!

I truly believe this is the world of Woody! I don't think he or anyone at ODU has any clue what to do or how to fix it. Our game atmosphere has been declining for years and it's not going to stop/improve until some new blood with fresh ideas is hired. To most of us, there are tremendous ideas that seem so obvious, but to the Admin, they are absolutely clueless. Sad days for ODU....

I saw no coordinated effort to get the crowd into the game or start waving the towels.
Nothing by cheerleaders, students or admin.
So was this a wasted chance? I know the score at first was lopsided but it got very tight in the second half.
Would have been nice to see some kind of effort to get the crowd fired up and use the towels.

Also for a Sat night the student section was pathetic

That doesn’t excuse them forgetting about the cell phones. If we assume your statement is correct, maybe they should have put out the towels for a different game then. No attention to detail. This would make for an even bigger fail.

They did the cellphone thing because they gave out those light up sunglasses. Why did anyone expect that to be a fixture?

I addressed the student comment not the cell phone thing. Which was dumb.
As for the towels, i would have done those against WKU, but since i don’t know what kind of sponsorships or whatever exists, i am not going to comment on it.

Umm, because its fun...and it looks cool. Why do we need stupid light up glasses to do the cell phone thing? Makes no sense.

Seems the towel thing was tied to the release of the Mtn Dew Ice. So timing was probably out of their hands.

Though it will never look as great as it did with the blue lights, we dont.

However, many are saying they go back to the same well so often that it kills the excitement it originally provided.

So, maybe they are trying to avoid overkill on a cool thing. And maybe they're going to do this for just the best games.

RE: Dear Dustin
My wife suggested that they sell the blue glasses in the BBR and got some agreement that fans would buy same to be used in conjunction with the students. I'm not sure. I do think the cell phone thing part of the intro every game is a way to get folks a bit more involved and costs nothing.

I guess there are things where you can go to the well to often, but the cell phone lights thing is more like improving the programming of player introductions than employing a cheap gimmick to get the crowd going.
