Holt shot even par today and dropped from 15th to 41st place.

But Taylor Pendrith shot a 6-under 65 and is tied for the lead heading into the final round tomorrow. Let’s get this win!

Mac Hughes with a nice 6-under round today to finish in 15th place at the John Deere. Connors finished in 50th place.

Up north on the Mackenzie Tour, Ian Holt had a nice top 10 finish.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition
I've been lazy lately, but here's a quick update.

* Hughes has gotten hot, with 3 Top 25 finishes in the last 4 tournaments including a T8 in this weekend's Canadian Open, which made him the low Canadian and all of Canada cares about that. Good to see his golf game coming together after a very rough start to the sophomore year.

* Conners missed the cut and is now 127th in the Fed Ex Cup standings - remember the Top 125 keep their cards. Only a few tournaments left, so a good finish in the next few weeks is needed!

* Ryan Yip got an exemption to play in the Canadian Open which is only his 2nd PGA tournament and he finished tied for 22nd and made nearly as much in prize money than he has all year on the web.com tour. Yip is well positioned to make the playoffs for a chance at the PGA card, but will need a top 2 or 3 finish to just straight out earn his card from the web.com tour play.

Ian Holt made a run today and ended up finishing 2nd in the Makenzie Tour's Syncrude Open. He was two strokes off the winner, but 3 strokes ahead of third. With the high finish, he moves up to 12th in the order of merit, with the Top 5 earning web.com cards and the Top 10 getting benefits in Q school.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition
Well, it's playoff time for golf, but not the playoff some would have been hoping for.

Mackenzie Hughes finished 160th in FedEx points, a massive dropoff from last year's very good rookie year. He only made 11 of 26 cuts, but made 6 of the last 7 cuts including a Top 10 at the Canadian Open. I hope the good play continues in the fall, but he won't be in the FedEx Cup playoffs. Because of his win last season, he is fully exempt through next year.

Corey Conners finished 130th in FedEx points and now must hit the web.com playoffs to keep his PGA card. He made 20 of 28 cuts, which is really impressive, but had only one Top 10 finish and some pretty lousy Sundays. I think he's a PGA caliber player though and will get back one way or another.

Ryan Yip will also be in the web.com playoffs having finished the best year of his career. He made 10 of 20 cuts and had a Top 10 finish. He also finished in the Top 25 in the PGA Tour's Canadian Open, the first time he's made a PGA cut.

The web.com playoffs work so that the Top 25 in money during the playoffs (among those not already earning the PGA card) will earn their PGA card. The eligible players are those that finish in 126th-200th on the PGA tour and 1st - 75th on the web.com tour (though those in the Top 25 have already earned their PGA cards).

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition
Quick update:

* The third of the 4 web.com finals tournaments is finishing today. The top 25 is prize money over the 4 tournaments that have not earned their PGA cards already will. Corey Conners finished tied for 32nd today and is currently 46th on that money list. He has made two of three cuts. Ryan Yip finished T71st and is currently 71st on the money list. Both have some heavy lifting to do next week to earn the PGA cards, but both are guaranteed full exemptions into the web.com tour for next year.

* The Makenzie Tour concluded today with Ian Holt finishing tied for 4th in the Tour finals thanks to someone ahead of him bogeying the final hole, which had major implications. Because of that bogey, Ian moved from potentially 11th to 9th in the order of merit. End result: he has qualified for the final stage of the web.com tour and avoiding having to play 2 or 3 stages just to get there. Taylor Pendrith finished 35th in the order of merit and will have to slug through a few stages of Q school to get to the finals.

* Finally, Chase Johnson was the medalist for the pre-qualifying round of the Q School and advances to the first stage. I think John Hahn did that a years ago as well.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition
The pro season winds down today and we can see where the Kent pros stand.

* Hughes has his PGA card for another year based on his tournament win in 2006. He is fully exempt on the 2018-19 PGA tour.

* Conners and Yip both missed the cut this weekend for the web.com championship and will not earn their PGA card this year. Both are fully exempt for the web.com tour next year based on their respective finishes on the PGA (between 126 and 175th) and web.com (between 26th and 75th) tours.

* Everyone else heads to Q school. Chase Johnson will play the first stage soon. I assume that Taylor Pendrith will be in the hunt as well, but I don't know if he is exempt through the 1st or 2nd stage. Ian Holt is exempt through the final stage due to his finish on the Mackenzie Tour. I'm not sure if anyone else will be in action, but I'll hunt through the scorecards and see at the time.

* I'll check in on the women in a bit.

Thanks for the thorough update - hopefully Mac gets hot next year

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition
Some news:

1) Mackenzie Hughes had a solid start to the 2018-19 season with a tie for 33rd at the Safeway Open. Corey Conners missed the cut. Despite losing his PGA card, Corey is still on the exemption list, but just really far down it. He might get a few shots at PGA tournaments over the course of the season, but not many.

2) Taylor Pendrith advanced to the 2nd Stage after finishing tied for 10th in the first stage. Taylor had a really crummy final round or he might have been the medalist.

3) Chase Johnson is tied for 14th in the First Stage. His particular tournament just finished the 2nd round of 4 after losing two days because of the hurricane.

This will be the 3rd time that Conners has been in the final group for a PGA event. The first two didn't go so well. Hopefully tomorrow is different.

Very solid 4-under final round for Corey and a 2nd place finish. Very important week for him. Also cashed $475K, which will go a long way for this newlywed.

Yeah, Conners did have a nice round. Damn shame because this would have meant a lot in July. Now, he's going to have an uphill battle to get into tournaments to collect those Fed Ex Points and probably will spend most of the year playing web.com events.

Chase Johnson and Taylor Pendrith failed to advance out of the second round of Q school. Both were close, but fell a touch short.

It looks like only Ian Holt will be playing for a web.com card in a few weeks.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2018 Edition
Ian Holt finished tied for 85th in the Q school final stage. He did not earn his web.com card.

Where we stand:

* Mackenzie Hughes: fully exempt on PGA Tour
* Corey Conners: conditionally exempt on PGA Tour and fully exempt on web.com tour.
* Ryan Yip: fully exempt on web.com tour.

All others: professional limbo. They'll probably try to play minor league tours or the Mackenzie Tour next year.
