RE: Towson Game
Loewe looked like he was going to foul the guy trying to dribble out the clock. I'm glad he didn't (or, at least, it was not called) because that was the only thing that kept Towson at 99.

RE: Towson Game
Tony said this team needs to get better. He's right. Though they showed heart & hustle Thursday, they were outplayed for the most part. Today obviously as well. A lot needs to fixed moving forward to this coming Thursday.

Last two games the Tribe is 8 of 26 and 9 of 26 from three. Not good, when that is your bread and butter.

I doubt many teams in the ACC beat Towson today.

My friend texted me that they would have beat Duke today.

RE: Towson Game
Guessing they don’t shoot 59% from three on the 25th up in Baltimore. Just get that game back on the road and tonight doesn’t matter. 5-1 is 5-1. Must beat Northeastern Thursday with the students back in town or we could easily be looking at a four game losing streak with road games at Elon and Towson around the corner.

RE: Towson Game
I thought Tribe gave respectable effort. I suspect Coach Shaver's post-game comments were him taking an opportunity to ground a young team that has been riding high. There is room for improvement and a loss can be motivational.

I said Towson couldn't shoot at that clip for a whole game at the half and they proved me wrong. That has to be one of the best shooting performance I've ever witnessed. Yes, we gave up to many paint points, but most of the jumpers and 3's they took and made were contested. Give credit where credit is due, we caught Towson on the wrong day and I'm not sure we beat them even if we played perfectly today.

Towson may have been 2-3, but I still believe they're top 2 in the conference. W&M has over-performed to date. We are better than #8. I'd put us as a top 5 squad.

If it makes you feel any better, JMU choked away another game tonight when they were up seven with 3 minutes to go and lost by one.

RE: Towson Game
Pretty simple...against a team as physical as Towson is, we have no choice but to help inside leaving perimeter players open for threes. If they make 60% of them, you lose. If they only make 30% it’s a different story. Predict a much closer game up in Baltimore in twelve days.

RE: Towson Game
That's because JMU and Towson were contesting our three point shots. Towson played a lot of 3-2 zone today and were okay to let Nate catch the ball around the key and double him from the back side. The corner behind him was open, but with him backing in he couldn't see it. When it didn't go in to Nate they were on our men on the perimeter. Good defensive strategy in my mind.

Towson played a complete game against UNCW as well. They couldn't miss from 3.

Yeah, we didn't attack their zone well at all. Need to have somebody catch the ball at the FT line and make their defense rotate and find the open person. Too many attempts at ball screens that didn't result in anything and burned the shot clock down and led to a low percentage shot.

Meanwhile, we let Towson catch the ball in the middle of the zone (about 10 feet away) at will and they just burned the zone constantly. As bad as our man defense is, I think that will give us the best chance to stop Towosn from scoring.

Reminded me a lot of the Ohio State game. Some days you just have to tip your hat.

RE: Towson Game
For the first game this year must say the coaching helped lose the game. Shaver should have never let Knight stay in the game after he picked up his 2nd foul with under 3 to play in first half. Instead Knight stayed in the game and picked up a foul 18 seconds later-(and it was not for lack of an opportunity to sub him out). Yes I agree with Shaver the players lost intensity both today and against JMU but the enthusiasm between the players and mojo was markedly different after the third foul and the score was 41-40 our favor with 2:28 to play at that point. After then they outscore us 59 to 32.

I still feel pretty damn good about this team. Tony has said over and over how different this team is from last year's. They've got a long week ahead to work hard and prove him right.

Yes, Knight should have come out immediately before picking up his 3rd foul, but that was not the deciding factor in the game. His playing time and, to my eye, his aggressiveness were not effected in the 2nd half. Towson going zone was the turning point earlier in the 1st half. That and the unconscious shooting.

Bummer to lose a home game, but I think everyone knew we were past due to drop a game. Like I said earlier, I think Shaver see this as a chance to refocus and motivate. I suspect the players will respond well.

Towson Game
We are 5-1 in the conference and could just as easily be 3-3. None of us thought we'd have this record so be encouraged by what we've been able to do so far and get ready for another fight.

One slip in the CAAT and its all over. Again.

RE: Towson Game
Agree with most who knew a game like this was coming. Towson played extremely well and their physicality--especially at the guard positions where their guys looked like linebackers--completely threw us off kilter.

Glad we have four full days plus before the Northeastern game...as WMTribe90 noted, Tony will use this time to refocus the team. Anxious to hear what he says at Anna;s Brick Oven at the Tuesday Tony Shave Luncheon at noon.

https://kenpom.com/index.php?s=RankLuck says you're the luckiest team. The CAA has three very lucky teams with Hofstra fifth and Elon ninth.
