I don’t tbink Forbes will leave for the first major offer, but he will leave when he gets the offer he’s looking for. Why would he not advance his career?

Of course. That’s capitalism, a free market economy. Obviously. But wait, all these high paid Power 5 coaches work in the very places where capitalism and the free market system are trashed as THE customary and usual protocol on a regular basis. Could it be that these presidents succumb to the real world and fail to practice what they profess to support when those, the big $$$ donors, come knocking?

I'll clarify that what I meant is I believe Forbes will stay after THIS year. However, if we continue to have success then I do believe eventually he'll get an offer he can't refuse. I just don't think that offer comes this year.

His salary at ETSU is $205,000 plus a $27,000 stipend. In addition to that, if he stays at ETSU until July 1, 2018 he receives a $175,000 bonus. If he stays until July 1, 2019 he receives another $200,000 bonus and on July 1, 2020 he receives another $200,000.

That is a three year $1.27 million contract and he is under contract until the end of the 21/22 season.

At his age it isn't advancing his career, it is job security that is the issue. Forbes will be 53 years old in March. IF he takes another job and it doesn't work out, he will be looking for a job at age 57/58. Not a good age to be looking for a job.

IF he leaves (and of course he may) it needs to be for a perfect situation. There is no room for error and it is too late to rebuild a coaching career at age 57/58.

I believe he got 150k bonus this past July 1st. http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/Basketba...eep-Forbes

And I believe that Scott Carter and Dr. Noland should up the bonus this year. Coach deserves it and it would be a win/win situation.

With relation to salaries, did the college coaching golden boy trend setter earn his keep with that national title? This is a never ending discussion. But a few stay put these days — like the always example Belmont coach? Are there any other incentives now days other than money?

Well of course he's not gonna say he's leaving.

He went further. Coach said his contract is until 2022 and that he would be here as long as he has a contract.

If you ever get a chance to speak with him, remind him not only of his importance to the program but how important his success is to the region. No pressure though, coach.03-lmfao

Ah, how sweet that would be! But I think even Larry Brown said that kind of stuff since stability is a huge selling point for recruits.

Can you imagine what Steve Forbes could build here in another 4 years of recruiting and teaching like this? We could be another Wichita State or Xavier where one of our transfers could absolutely remake an average mid major for a season or two. Or maybe the second coming of the Jennings/Talford/Dennis era.

The donors will have to open their pockets in a big way. I just don't see it, but I am going to enjoy the heck out of it in the meantime. Who thought this team could/would be better than last years team? Who saw this coming?

Money won't be a problem.

When this team does more than last year's team, which I hope they do, then you can say this team is better.

I know the Tiger High people are convinced he'll take the Memphis State job, but I'll be honest, he can go a lot bigger than that if he wants. Here's the question, does he want to? He's 52 years old right now, so he's in this awkward stage. Let's say he leaves for Alabama should that job come open (Natives are VERY, VERY restless with Avery Johnson), that's a nice landing spot. They'll pay him Will Wade's salary, then yea, he might go. Here's the deal though, He can also stay here, at this point, he gets 1-2 more NCAA tournament bids then he becomes a bigger legend at this school than Les Robinson, and should an arena ever get built, it's the Forbes Center. So he has this interesting choice, does he want to be someone like Rick Barnes and maybe grow this into being a Wichita State type job, or does he chase the paycheck? The end result for him is probably the same, he's not winning a national title at Alabama.
Now let's say Pitt, or UConn calls, he's got something to think about. I believe it'll all be situational, is it the right job that has a ceiling high enough that he could make a final four run, or the Tennessee job should Barnes decide to hang it up in the next 3-4 years.

Good points. Like you said, you probably wont have a chance at winning a national championship at an SEC school, but you will get paid a lot of money. And its not just him, his assistants will be paid well too.

If he actually stays here through his current contract and has the same success that he is having, the arena would almost certainly have his name on it.

RE: Official Game Thread: VMI (W 89-48)
This is an interesting topic as well as one that makes fans nervous (myself included). I do fully believe that our current administration has no problem stepping his contract up again, but not to the level of a power 5. If this season keeps going the way it has, he could get some very strong attention. As others have stated there is much more to this issue. Things such as his age, stability, and wanting to achieve something here that others have not. Again, I don't have an inside scoop, but I know that our current president is a huge reason why our program is where it is today. So I will never say never as long as Dr. Noland is here.
